So those guys who keep fresh water sumps, this is a question for you.

If I understand the nitrogen cycle correctly then, the bacteria that we desire to keep ammonia in check thrive in oxygenated water. This is why wet/dry filters are so good at biological filtration.

Not sure if this is the correct forum, but someone may be interested. Takealot has Fluval FX-6 canister filters on special for R6,399. Still pricey but quite a bit cheaper than normal. These filters are powerful and bulletproof. I am running one on my 500 litre aquarium.

I have a boyu canister filter that a friend gave me and said doesnt work, I opened it up and found that the rotor was clogged with gunk, I cleaned it out and plugged everything in, when I put it in it started to pump and then sparks came out of the switch that controls the uv light, so again I took it all apart, took out the uv light and silicone the whole uv compartment closed, I also plugged the switch...

I am looking at the pros and cons of a sump vs one or two canister filters. Thoughts and advice please.

Sumps seem like a cheaper and more flexible option but I am worried about the noise....

I just wanted to find out what media you use in the Dophin c1600 canister filter? My dad has this filter and this past weekend, I went over to help him set it up. I noticed that the trays are stored in the opposite direction of the tetra ex1200 plus i.e the dophin has the sponge at the bottom vs what I see on the tetra box which has it on top.

Anyway he currently has the black sponge and thin filter wool in the bottom tray. Then he has bio media(lava rock, bio-balls, ceramic rings)...

Ive changed the main gasket so doubt if thats the leaking oring
Ive changed the orings on the inlet and outlet but they are hard and not as soft as originals.
So i would like to order all the oring or do they come with the tap set ill try to upload pics of where oring sits

I trust you are all well.

I was a numpty and dropped my impeller while cleaning it, breaking one of the fins off of the impeller. It still functions, but there is a subtle rattle when the pump is in use. Does anyone have an old impeller lying around from a broken pump in the Joburg area? Or alternatively, does anyone know where I can get a replacement impeller without having to buy a whole new filter again?
