Anybody using aquaforest ?

On a LFS crawl ( Lifestyle Pet Hyper in Randburg ) spotted some new product on a trolley.

love the green logo ..

hmm not to bad for a 3ft - should be able to rescape one with only two buckets.

Now I need to find a tank to rescape ...
Anybody else use this before?

Nano it is ...

I really like the "Lava soil"

size, color and texture

now the AF natrual substrate ... hmm that time will tell.

to say it has loads of plant material - peat would be an understatement

I mean loads

experiment planted - most are from the original tank - that was Langa substrate .. going to be same light and just an airstone.

and the required buce for the test

as expected some floaters and a bit muddy.


Time will tell.

What does it cost?

 

Don't know yet .. Suspect R1200 for both buckets - will see when I pay today, they had not loaded the stock on the system yet when I managed to get my paws on it.

he he he ... ok so my tank is upside down ...

lava soil should be used alone and the natural substrate should be capped


Gonna leave it and see what is what .. I suspect a very very long time for this to clear.

That cleared up nicely.
That looks almost like pebbles, and has a different look than the ordinary substrate you normally get.

 

Yeah .. for being in the wrong layer in the tanks substrate it is not too bad. Still prefer the lava substrate ... but need to find a tank to rescape ;-)

lol yeah ... so the two containers I have do not need to be used together ... really like the lava "soil"

So how are my tanks going ...

Going to probably restart the small nano ...

The AF Natural substrate - really does need to be capped well. My upside down tank is just not working - my bad for not understanding the instructions.

Here I disrupted the substrate ever so slightly .. and with no capping ...


Dust clouds or clay. Reminds me of the time I used GP clay soil in an outside dirt tank ...

Looking at AF Natural Substrate one should probably not expect to to run clear ... esp when it is not capped.



Looking at the above you can see loads of different bits in the mix, and yes some of it is very soft ...


With loads of material that would breakdown over time ..



So what is the verdict ...

I need to rescape and retest - I suspect this will be like a dirt tank on steroids if done right.

As for D-tank --- some bad luck and that need to get some serious TLC - nothing to do with the substrate ..

So as of this morning I do not have a viable AF test tank running, will try and fix it ASAP.

This time I followed the instructions ;-) but wow look at this root growth from when I had the substrate the wrong way round ...





Very pleased with how clean the water is considering that this is unwashed used PFS ...





Does not look like I had any of the clay wash into the PFS ... it really does help if you read the instructions ( compact that AF natural soil... before capping it)

Side note - I forgot how easy it is to plant things in PFS ...
