    Hi everyone

so I am new to fish tanks of any type besides the bowls I used to have as a child growing up with comets. I am from Observatory Johannesburg and do have a decent 60000lt koi pond stocked with 17 koi some great and some simple pond fish...

I have just bought myself a 1200mmx450mmx700mm tropical tank with some livestock the little I know I cant confirm excalty what fish I have BUT think the following might be in there

    6x Blood Parrot
    3x Clown Loach
    4x Malawi

my wife is already saying maybe we should get a longer tank (2.5m to take up a recess space we have in our dining room. but lets crawl before we can walk

    Hi, and welcome to TASA.
I think I am going to like your wife, as they are usually the ones that limit what we can spend on our obsession.
Post some pics of your new tank. We all love pics.

yeah once they see how small it really is the realization kicks in ... with rigamortis a 4ft is a bit of a bending exercise - getting the volume displacement just right is also higher grade. On the 2.5m with sump it is a simple slip and slide exercise.

    - oh welcome

Hi @Gerard and welcome to TASA

I have to agree.. we all love pictures so... off you go and snap some shots for us!!

As for the tank.... have to agree with your Lady.... if you have the perfect spot for that size tank.. its the way to go
Especially if you used to your big pond... a 1.2m is minute in comparison... wont take long and you will want to go bigger

Also as @f-fish says... at the end of the day, a 2.5m tank with a sump is much more forgiving in maintenance and your options of what fish to keep are endless

Whatever you decide, good luck and keep the posts coming

So the big thing now is to try rob a bank to afford a tank, or perhaps is there anyone on here that could perhaps assist with where to have one made with a decent filter and sump section

Photos YES we all do love them so I will get better photos as soon as I can but for now here are a few

"Okay so I alwasy assumed I had some tech knowledge but seems I was wrong. cant seem to get the photos on here... have tried adding the link from Dropbox but give the photos as an error"

I was also not sure what was being said but basically from what I can see here is... go big bigger is better and easier.

Well that could be the one way of looking at it .. bigger tank better maintenance. The other is that your lady is already mad at you for getting an aquarium, but she realizes that if she kills you now, dumping the body in the small tank is going to be hard - so allowing you to setup a bigger tank will make it easier for her in the long run to dispose of your corps without spilling water on the new Persian rug.

So the warning sign - watch out when she starts rug shopping after you install your 2.5m tank.
