    Howsit guys,

Any one tried using the full spectrum grow light chips.

For my marine tank refugium i used a std floodlight but removed the std chip n replaced it with a red for growing cheatomorpha algea, works well.

I was looking at doing the same for a planted tank, but replacing the 10w std chip for this full spectrum growlight chip. Tank is roughly 50cm so cn opt for 2 x 10w floods if you guys suggest. Really simple to do just desloder the existing chip n replace with new chip. I cn also do a combo like a full spectrum on 1 and a 6500k on the other.

Heres the link for the specs.

I have used full spectrum COB's - they actually work very well if you are already use to that light distribution. Even in full-spectrum (and nobody is sure what that means) it always seems to be missing some red. Viewing and photographing under full-spectrum is a challenge.

This sounds interesting... Did not know you could do this. I was thinking of maybe getting LED Downlights when I do get to that point. but LED flood light might work better.

Too much of a gamble to get good quality flood lights that have the correct characteristics.

Typically the cheap - re-branded options are not:

    1) truly 10 watt
    2) generate more heat than other options
    3) is narrow focused so fit for tank size could be a problem
    4) has a weird spectrum and just does not grow plants well.

but if you find something give it a try, you can always use the floof light outside if it does not work for your tank.

I was hoping to use it inside a room that just not get quite enough light for some plants. My wife wants to have a jungle type room. And some of the grow light have outraged prices as well as heavy electricity usage. Was trying to go as low as possible on the costs. If I may ask what type of setups do you use. I see the site at the beginning has different spectrum chips etc and I was considering getting some but am not sure about the effort in connecting them
If it is not going to work at all then not really in mood to try

I used to use grow light panels and some DIY COB's - problem other than heat (red generates the most heat) ... of and you battle to get good pictures under grow light colors.

Now I am pretty happy with normal 220volt T8 LED tubes and other non COB led lights.

As for my COB imports ... still MIA in the SAPO mess.

Some examples of the current lights on the tanks.

Anything goes - as long as you are willing to live with the consequence.

Have you replaced the chips in led flood lights before? Is it a case of clip out and clip in or what? Also if you have the tracking number you could possibly track the order. I know they can sit at customs for something like up to 3 months. And the post office does not always let you know a package has arrived
