    Hi All

Thought it’s time for a build thread to show what I have done with all of your advice. The tanks is now +- 4 weeks old.

    Setup:

    Tank: Std 2ft 60L tank

    Lights: 2x 10w 6500K LED flood lights on a timer 7 hour a day

    Filter: Dolphn c500 canister filter

Heater: 2x Via Aqua 100w heaters

    Temperature controller

    Substrate: Seachem Flourite Dark

    Whats in the Filter.

From bottom to top (filter has two baskets)

    Bottom basket:

    • Coarse sponge
    • Filter wool

    Top Basket:

    • Half Ceramic rings
    • Half Seachem Purigen

    Temperature controller:

I got irritated with the heater and the floating temperatures, the heater is set to 26 degrees and would then cycle between 25 – 26 the one day and then the next day between 26-27.

I had a temperature controller form my marine days and decided to rather use that. The temp is now set to 26 degrees with half degree difference 25.5 to 26 degrees.

    Heaters:

I have two 100w heaters one gets driven by the Temperature controller and the other is on standby with the temperature set to 24 – 25 degrees it never comes on.

If something should happen with main heater the second will take over.

    Cabinet:

The sides and front I used 21mm plywood which I have stained and then sealed with clear Woodoc sealer 4 coats.

    Wish list:

    1. I am playing with the Idea to go Hi-tech and add co2 regulator and canister hopefully I can pick up a setup second hand that’s not too expensive.

    Driftwood:

The driftwood was soaked for about a 3+ weeks and then boiled for 3 days yes 3 days my wife was getting very irritated with me.

    Plants

I have seen some very nice growth on all my plants. I am thinking of removing the grass type plants form the tank not sure if I like it.

    Fish

2x Guppies - male and female

1x Sward – female (the male died the day after I bought them)

I seeded the thank with Seachem stability as prescribed on the bottle.

    Todo list:

    1. Get some Algae eaters starting to see some Algae grow on the glass
    2. Get more fish
    3. Build a Canopy to match the stand
    4. Look for second hand Co2 kit

    Photo’ says a 1000 words

Otocinclus would work. or a bristle nose pleco stays quite small (well compared to other plecos). Or some cherries assuming your fish wont snack on them.

    So guys update time. :)

I got Frikkie Yesterday, tied feeding him some Carrot Yesterday but was more interested in cleaning his new home.
On the other side my female sward felt the carrot was awesome and dragged it around the tank. lol will remove it tonight when I get home

    That setup looks great.
Frikkie needs driftwood, and that is why he probably went for it rather than the carrot.

That new plant looks like Bacopa, either Monieri or Caroliana.

Tank looks stunning @JDV, well done!!

Just one thing... no one else has said anything so... maybe I am wrong but, is the plant in front on the left not a Java Fern?

It looks planted in the substrate
If it is Java, as far as I know, the rhizome will eventually rot and die if planted in the substrate.
Needs to be tied to the wood.
But let's see what others say

Must say i like your tank @JDV.
Pezulu is wright about the driftwood. The only food it would leave the wood for is blanched babby marrow.:D
@MariaS is wright. As long as the rhizome is out of the substrate it will be ok but it is better to tie it to a rock ore driftwood.

    Hi all

I tied the Java fern to a small peace of Rock last night and added some bigger rocks around it. Not sure if I like the look.
Was thinking maybe I should add some smaller peaces in between the grass and maybe around it? what do you think or leave as is?

Ok..... just my personal opinion.... you know women are full of sh*&^

Those rocks don't look so cool to me... their colour doesn't blend in so nicely with the whole colour scheme of the tank.

They like.... stick out too much instead of blend in and compliment

I would either tie the java to the existing wood. maybe towards the bottom on the left or take a drive out over the weekend and find one or two more earthy colour rocks somewhere
