Well I think it is pink, they are still a season or two away being pulled .. maybe earlier with this new growth, then again I must also get them going in another tank or two, these have taken me years to establish as a viable low tech - LED driven crypt.

I am busy finding the same with mine. Been in a low tech LED tank for 2.5 years now. Not dying but also not showing any significant growth

Might be something about slow the CO2 consumption being an indicator for a WC need.

12 hours later and the uptake is clearly dropping.

did a 30% WC - wonder what will be consumed by morning - re-filled both after the WC.

Every body is benefiting form the CO2 - yes even the algae ... need to rethink the current lighting strategy.

Ok that was a crazy few weeks - way too much CO2 - growth and yes algae, so been on a rooibos detox with the tank. (Gotta give it a fancy name or nobody will believe me)

Fish did not cope well with a WC a few weeks back in this tank, had several deaths fish not eating etc.

    tNN2E5yw4-_23BWuEJZTHsPwegxB93HhV5RUZDpUFB53_4TB6pu9uowk3E73buP8MyPlJzp23C8EayWWZw=w1664-h938-no.jpg

So over 3 days or so I added +- 200g of stokkies rooibos ( Dischem sells them) - tank was proper red ;-) - the tinge now is after several WC's as the rooibos is still breaking down - some of it was even eaten by some fish.

Deaths stopped, appetites returned, now just getting things back in line again.

If I really wanted to get rid of the red, I would just filter with purigen, but this does not bother me other than the pics that look a bit weird.

So not real stress about the redness ;-)

Compare it to the white - some might not like it.

Not adding any more at the moment - seems to have done what was needed.

Almost time for a trim in this tank.

Ok... Ferdie... please enlighten us a bit here..

What does the rooibos do in a case like yours... did you think you had toxins in the water which the rooibos got rid of?
Is it an appetite enhancer as well?

and was it loose tea that you just sprinkled in or teabags??
is it worth doing this every few months on a tanks just to clean things up? whether you have deaths or not?

    lol

    a few things ...

Darker water - fish are less skittish and are more relaxed - less stress means they recover quicker to the parameter change. Lets assume that was not it ...
then maybe what we preach to humans some off it might be true for fish ? http://www.joekels.co.za/health-benefits-of-rooibos-tea and https://www.naturalfoodseries.com/15-benefits-rooibos-tea/ ( but no do not think the fish had dandruff ).

Jokes a side .. a few years back TASA was a hot bed of people trying stuff ...
but let me not take the fun out of going and re-reading it all for you.... you can search Dirk and rooibos to get you started.

    - no you buy the tea loose - the bags in the tank are not the best of ideas, well my feeling these days.

I use rooibos when my fish are showing signs of I'll health and sometimes just because. I do use the bags but make sure it's 100% rooibos and pre soak in water with prime just incase the bag contains bleach.
