I picked up a used 4ft tank with a bunch of free stuff on OLX. The seller wanted to give me the wooden stand they made for it, I was quite horrified that this tank had actually survived being on that stand

So my mission began to build a stand. I decided to go with 25 X 50 rectangular tubing. I started this project on a public holiday so Chaimberlains closed early and I ended up getting rusty tubing from Builders. Hauled out the old horizontal bandsaw and set it to 45 degrees.

I've found with welding up frames it's best to clamp it up and just tack weld everything. Then check it's all square and weld opposite sides of the tubing in quick succession. Warping happens when it cools.

I chopped up some 3mm angle iron; drilled 10mm holes in it and welded some 10mm nuts on it. This was to make adjustable feet so I can level the tank.

    I tacked the legs

Added a cross support in the center, a 4ft probably doesn't need it but it can't hurt.
Added cross beams and support for the 3ft sump.

A whole lot of welding later a coat of hammerite and we're done:

Very nice. Worth the effort if you get a good price.

Nice stand, sturdy. Turn your leveling bolts all the way in, and then start to level the stand. That an R1 standing there, being neglected?

No, it's a GSXR750 in need of an engine rebuild.

Nice job, a little over engineered - sure does add to the build.

New foam before you add water, then you can let if be for 10 years or more again.

    Later Ferdie

Did you use a mig welder for this? or a normal stick welder? Looks very very nice

Mig with flux core wire. I hate the flux so I ordered a gas can. Then I can weld stainless and aluminium. Thanks for the compliment. Welding takes a bit of practice but I'm getting there.20190512_123238.jpg

This stand cost more than the second hand tank. But it's all about creating something. And I hate building tanks! Silicon is not my friend

Don't blink, you'll miss it. I'm fattening up Seth so he's big enough to eat the gouramis.
