    Hi all,

thought id start a new thread on my setup, I started my first one asking about tank to sump ratio and it kind of grew into all sorts of discussions about lights, filters etc.
so I got this tank, 200 X 45 X 60, came with a stand and been standing for a year according to seller. I've had it now for a few weeks and mostly been working on a cabinet/wood covering. I'm going all DIY on this build and not looking to spend too much on it.
    pics so far :

    on my DIY list -

    - re silicone the tank
    - build a trickle filter out of rectangular 50cmd plant pots
    - lights ( going for 4 80W T5 - 10 000K ) as per advice from previous thread
    - find the right rock to build underwater sandfall... this has been driving me crazy, dying to try it

@Innocent159, you mentioned silicone remover from buco, would that not remove the silicone that is holding the panels together as well?
if my glass panels come apart I have a huge problem

To remove old silicone. You need to put fresh silicone on to glass surface and not old silicone.

One of the reasons my tank got a leak. Didn't remove old silicone properly

@Innocent159, im with you but im talking about the silicone that is keeping the panels together, not sure how to explain, basically the silicone you cant get to with a blade, unless you force it between the glass panels.

@MariaS did you reseal your tank yourself or got someone to do it? im looking to learn from everyone's experience re sealing.. do's and don't the guys on utube make it look so easy except for one guy that actually had to redo it 3 times and actually showed footage of each time and mistakes he made.

I got a blade in to mine but heard using wire is better. Should be able to get into it with blade... So close up picture. I'm pretty sure blade or wire should get in between the two panels

Thanks Ferdie, i was hoping i could get away with just removing visible silicone and not split the panels apart. Ive been quoted 1200 to get it redone do you think its a fair price?

Mine cost R50 and i learned from my mistake although my first tank stil standing solid also bigger than the one that leaked.
I build custom 1.2m tank and made my 100l a 50l tank by cutting and resealing the tank.

If they collect, strip and re glue every thing and deliver it back R1200 is really not bad for that size, it is allot of work to DIY it.

I would not do the short cut and remove and glue over ... on that size, asking for a flood you are.

Thanks guys, im actually too scared to do it myself. I will rather pay to get it done. Looking at it there are too many support panels in The tank.5b24a85281e8833d11e6a9023ed36ea4.jpgfb451e2cb866f24c09912fdcbca9967e.jpg

On those extra glass panels .. did you get the guys to sand the edge slightly? If not just be very careful when working int he substrate ... many I time I have pulled a cut finger from a DIY tank that I did not have the edges cleaned a bit. Funny you do not feel the cut under water - but sure see the blood ;-)

Took a drive to pretoria and got me 15kg of driftwood and 30kg of rock. Im now in [2 minds on what kind or rock to use. I have dragon rock and this new rock that i have and the dragon rock blends in with the wood. IMG_4995.JPGa82e6e10c3a87650ed4129dc5f44efc6.jpg

When dry scaping with rocks and wood, rather place some polistireen or piece of carpet on bottom. One slip and base is cracked.
