    Hi all

I’m back after a long hiatus. Nearly 3 years in the uk and finally got a fish tank, was my partners idea to go half-half between us. He only got it because I wouldn’t stop talking about it and that it would keep me busy. Lol.

    so here are some pictures

I just made a purchase of some plants from a guy not far from me, he’ll be posting them to me next week.

I have Sunday and Monday off from work so I’ll be washing the black substrate and filling up the tank.

then go to the local LFS to find some driftwood for the fissidens that I just bought from the same guy. Getting hydrocotyle tripartita, Ludwigia arctuata, Dhg and p. helferi.

Thinking of getting bumblebee gobies… have had a discussion on a FB group that a few have successfully kept them in freshwater.

Yeah it took a while to post as I’m at work from 5am til 1pm and then I’m too tired to do anything else. I work as a warehouse operative.

Now I’m struggling to make up my mind.

Choice of stones I can get online would be either dragon rock or Seiyru stones - both are 30% off.

Got an order to pick from ScrewFix today - timer plug for my lighting.

At the same time I’ll pop into the pet shops and see if I can find some driftwood to my liking.

May go to the one aquarium fish shop later as it is only open from 5:30pm til 9pm.

I bit the bullet and purchased 5kg of Seiyru stone from Aquarium Gardens - happens I already had an online account with them and it’s dated July 2019

    @Rainstorm

    Good start
Though, it may have been easier to have placed the rocks before you filled it with water ?

I’m only getting the rocks delivered tomorrow and I actually got the plants in the post yesterday so I had to fill it up anyway.

Finally got an Tetra APS airpump. Piping, check valves and two-way valves purchased separately with the air pump.

All I got to do is get more plants. I am actually tempted to go the sponge filter route as the original HOB filter that came with the tank does not seem to really do well. Honestly I have never liked HOB filters and prefer canister filters - I'll eventually switch to a canister filter once I have saved up enough. Gonna go get the Tetra canister filter as my last one was really a good one before the cories got rehomed about 4 / 5 years ago and I'll never look at other types of filters again.

    Thinking of getting the following:
    • Anubias petite
    • Anubias coffeefolia
    • Java Ferns
    • Bucephalandra biblis (I loved the one I had before)
    • DHG, lots of it.
    • P. Helferi, more of it, maybe

Update. My stones arrived but alas it appears my request was misunderstood so I had to break up a larger stone into a few pieces to fit it all in.

Nah. Rearranged it and I think it looks better now, I’m amazed I can’t see my hob filter

Yup, the layout is good. I like it as it gives you room to add more plants, and flexibility if you want to change things around slightly

I think overall it looks good.
Not too sure about the one piece against the wood in the left corner. I would be tempted to move that to the other side, and see how that looks. But that just me

Actually it is behind the tree but not leaning on it. It’s on its own.

took more pics before I went to work - water is much clearer.
