    @PeterW,

    TBH, this looks like a form of Pt scalare to me.
    True altums are a lot taller and narrower.

    You wont find altums in this country. And if you do they would cost around R1000 a fish. Also they are very difficult fish to keep and need very specific water conditions and a very deep tank as they can grow to about 45cm in hight.

    But unfortunately they dont ship well and are very sensitive fish.
    So you wont get them in a lfs.
    only way to get tgem is to import them somehow.

    It is possibly a cross of what is called Peruvian Altum, certainly not a "generation 1", which shows some of the wild type markings. You can clearly see the coloration on the dorsal surface just above the head which resembles coloration of commercial variants. Important to know is that the Peruvian Altum is actually considered to be most likely a locality type of Pterphyllum Scalare. It is most certainly not an Altum angel. The fish in the picture should not have been expensive.

    The so called "Peruvial Altum" comes from Danziger, they've also labelled them as Dantum Angels. But it's definitely not a P. altum. It's a P. scalare. Possibly the nicest angels available at the moment, as far as your regular scalare go.

    I have 4 of them. They're beautiful. But they're definitely not Altums.
