    Hi all!

I recently acquired a male betta who previously wasn't kept in the best conditions. He is recovering quite well but I've noticed he seems to have some bent/broken fin rays in his tail.
He can swim quite well despite it so I don't think it causes him pain.

Will these correct themselves over time?
If not, is there something I could do to help correct them?

    Regards, Figeth

Shame, poor guy looks in rough shape. I'm sure you'll get him sorted in no time.

As for the fin rays, he will probably end up with much more impressive fins, but not sure if the bend will correct. It doesn't look like the base of the rays are damaged, so it might end up healing.

If he's swimming ok, then i wouldn't worry too much. Basically a cosmetic issue at that point

Out of interest, what kind of conditions was he previously kept in that could cause this?
Some bettas are seriously mistreated it seems

A pet store locally kept him in a tank with 10+ females, thinking he was also female. The girls beat him to a pulp. I offered to take him as he looked near death and "quite ugly". So I got given a very miserable, ragged finned, and malnourished betta. He already looks so much healthier.
