So my male Betta which I've had since February has been in a hospital tank for the last month and a half. when i woke up one morning a chunk of his fin was missing suddenly. no sign of fin rot but i put him in a hospital for water quality to allow the fins to grow back and prevent fin rot. after a month of everything going fine and the tail fin healing nicely i woke up one morning to see that an even bigger chunk was missing. the piece that was healing and more. i found the piece of his fin on the tank bottom. i did some research and found that it could be that my Betta is a fin nipper. the research suggests that this habit could either be genetic, caused by stress, boredom or even the betta not being happy with the size of the tank.
does any one have any experience with fin nippers?

Test the water and put some decorations in. Bettas get bored easily :p If you have the time, feed him a few times a day, small amounts. I used to dip my finger in water, attach a flake, and let him jump for it. f you're good, you can even teach him tricks (look it up). This should keep your betta stimulated.
