Went to my lfs on the weekend and they had one of these.
Def on my "to get" list when I go over to the "dark side".

Apparently they are quite tricky to keep alive long term

What a curious creature! Any given reason as to why they aren't long lived?

It was still in qt. Not priced up yet.
But I would be surprised if it goes for less than £300 (R5,500)

    Yup - really nice

Back when I was working in an LFS, we had one of these come in, just once. It was sold before we could even get it to feed (in the week we had it). No idea what the fate of that animal was after it left... also never got around to confirming if it was Taeniura lymma or Neotrygon kuhlii, but I didn't know better at the time.

This looks like Taeniura lymma - perhaps most suitable because of its size, but if it doesn't adapt well to captivity, I'd be hesitant to spend that kind of money.

I would never buy this sort of fish before I saw it feed
When I got my hystrix I asked to see them being fed. Wouldn't have taken them if they hadn't

weirdly enough i have seen 2 marine rays in 2 different pet shops in JHB this month, both for sale for R12000.00
and staff knew next to nothing about them at both shops, could not tell me species or anything other than they have not eaten since they got them
