    Hi,

Not sure if this has been posted before, tried looking for it, i wanted to maybe upgrade my canister but then i found this.
except for online and overseas would anyone stock this locally?

would be nice to have all my biological media in the main canister then have this just for mechanical, that way i could detach this and clean the sponges without really touching the biological.

I've seen this - well, other brands - being reviewed. Generally gets good praise, makes maintenance easier. One downside is that it can hinder performance of the canister somewhat, especially if you are not diligent with your cleaning schedule.

    I agree with @SalmonAfrica

It can or will work to some extent but it will not collect all the gunk and stop it from going into the canister

By removing the sponge/batting as a pre filter from your canister all the dirt will go straight into your media and will impair its performance as well as you will have to clean the canister much more often
Not sure its a good idea

this is a great idea, bit unfortunate that is requires a pump inside the tank
would place a union or quick coupling on the hose for inlet and outlet thou so it is easy to take to the sink for cleaning leaving bigger heavier canister in place

I think it's great idea... Ordered mine from wish, R130, so nothing to lose. Think also making sure it has good flow through with natural syphon will assist in enough pressure.
And it's much more mech filter than what I have in currwntly

Link to where I 1st saw it.:

Think about it now... Syphon will not play a role... As head is still the same, so ignore that part

Sorry...I didnt understand that it would work linked to the canister
But if it does then yes it's worth it
I thought it would work independent from the canister

Don't think you need the pump, as per video, but will see once I get mine... In a few months, haha

The units I have seen disappointed me a bit ... not in the concept but in the size. Now if they had say 4 x the volume of the canister, that would be great but the small size meant I rather went with pre-filters on the intake.

Received mine today and hooked it up. No issues with flow after I have hooked it up. The Filter is probably the same as my mechanical size in canister. Will post photos and videos after I have taken the photos from my phone.

Linked mine to the filter only, as head remains the same, the flow remains the same.

Nice Video .. will be keen to see the flow reduction as the filter matures and you get the typical build-up. at $2 one could say rahter use this as your pre-filter and then only do ceramics in the canister - that way you will seldom need to clean the canister, avoiding the risk of breaking clips and connectors, but rather run the risk on this.

Update on the booster filter, its one month later and flow is still unchanged. Will add pics when I clean it.

From what I can see it basically acts as a pre-filter, being fitted before the canister.
That is an interesting concept, which has been tried by various other manufacturers as well.
The Eheim Aquaball comes to mind.

I use a sponge filter as a pre-filter on my canister intake, and if I was to add this, it could go months without needing to be cleaned, and my canister would theoretically never need cleaning.

Nice video. Have you tried replacing the sponge with batting?

There is still a lot of empty space in the booster, will fill that with some floss, when I take it apart, but for now im a bit lazy.

There is still a basket of floss and sponge in my filter, will swop it out with ceramic rings the next cleaning and mod the booster to do the polishing
