I've seen a few videos and the guppies turnnout like endlers but I'm not shure if this is true

    Hi there

Although not absolutely clear from your pictures there, I would argue that you have "wild" guppies, rather than mosquitofish. But if a clearer picture is possible, then it may be easier to tell.

If it is just a "wild" guppy, then yes, they will interbreed given any chance. They are the same species, just the show ones were selectively bred to look as they do. However, the show guppies may have an advantage over wild ones, since it has been shown that females actually prefer males with bigger tails and brighter colours.

The outcome can vary greatly, depending on the heritability of the traits of the parents. You might get some quite like the show guppies, or you might get some more dull, wild-type fishes. There are a lot of factors at play here.

If they are mosquitofish (remembering that we actually have at least two species of mosquitofish released into SA, both quite unrelated to guppies), then interbreeding is a lot less likely. It has been done, but under some pretty specific circumstances. There are a whole lot of sexual compatibility issues that have to be overcome first, and even then the resulting fry are likely to be infertile.

Wild-type colouration of regular guppies - the kind of colours you see in "wild" released specimens right across SA - can be very similar to those of Endlers. There are some subtle differences, however.

Most livebearer females get a gravid spot, it's an indication that there are developing fry, not what species they are. Swordtails, platies, mollies, moquitofish, guppies, all the same.

Look, there is a chance that it is a mosquitofish, but as I said it's hard to tell without clear photos. Check the dorsal and caudal fins closely - if there is small but even dark spotting, it's probably a mosquitofish (but then again, I have seen specimens that lack this, too).

Try growing them up a bit. Males of the mosquitofish have a rather long gonopodium (sexual structure on the anal fin) as compared to those of guppies. Male guppies, once matured a bit, should have some degree of colouration, whereas the mosquitofish will not (at most, a little bit of black spotting).
