They look awesome but last time i had danios they drove me crazy - speed freaks cause mayhem in tank.

CPDs arent speed freaks - very relaxed. only time i ever see them moving quickly is to avoid the net or to get to food before others do.

are they always as colourful as this pic @Pezulu posted?

 

Yes, the males are. The females do not have most of the orange and are a more dull grey colour. Only disadvantage is that they are so small that you need to be close up to the tank to really appreciate them, but then again they are so small you can have many in a smallish tank which gives a very nice effect
