    Good afternoon,

I was wondering if anyone had any success stories to share when dealing with dropsy in betta fish? All I came up with was a bath of epsom salts, and thats more for constipation anyway.

Apparently Epsom salt bath plus an antibiotic is supposed to help..
    Good luck!

Dropsy is an indication of deeper issues causing a failure of the fluid regulation on the body. Can be from infections, injury or other stresses. Epsom salt allegedly helps draw fluid from the body but the original cause is often severe enough to kill the fish regardless. You must start treating immediately after seeing raised scales if you want any chance... I have had a knifefish get dropsy overnight after being attacked, it died after a couple days in a quarantine tank with epsom salt...

It's just one of those things you must try and prevent to the best of your ability.

How long have you had the fish?
    Betta are generally short lived.
As they come to the end of their lives, they tend to pick up illnesses which are often terminal unfortunately.

Ive had him for about 2 years, but he was always slightly lethargic and didn’t flare much, if he ever did even once.

I tried epsom salt baths but after about a week in quarantine he died. Thanks for the help though.
