The author, Scott Michael, has written or collaborated on quite a few books on marine fishes (both in the wild as well as in aquaria). It certainly seems like he has been there and done that. I look forward to getting my copy.

So, @Reedfish... thinking of converting to the dark side?

    I would love to
But there are 2 reasons holding me back

Firstly I travel a bit for work now and then.
Am usually away for only 2 or 3 days at a time. Am happy to leave my fresh water tank to its own devices. Not so sure about marine?

    And secondly, the cost.
I have worked it out and lets just say, my Mrs wouldn't agree with the priorities at the moment

Btw, have you received your copy yet?
If so, what do you think of it?

    "Your order has been shipped!"

I ordered it at the beginning of the week, and it's shipping out of the US. It said that I can expect it anywhere between mid- and end-October. So it'll either be an early birthday present, or just a birthday present.

@MariaS - who did you order through? I find it depends on who you use and where it comes from. I've had orders arrive notoriously late (months), but in general they arrive within a week of the expected delivery date.

@Reedfish - I spent the past week or more reading reviews, and chatting to people about it. Got a bit more background on the author. Compared it to other books on my wishlist... I ended up having to order it. I very nearly ordered a different book, but luckily I did some digging. The book didn't get bad reviews, per se, but it was apparent that it wouldn't be what I was looking for. So the shark book got bumped up the list.

    Regards,

What was the book that you passed on?

Btw, I will ask you the same question:
Have you not been tempted by "The Dark Side"?

@MariaS - I've never ordered from the UK, so I can't give any input on that. It sounds like a third party dealer, so expect a little more time on the clock (that's what I do, anyways).

@Reedfish - it was a book on fish breeding by Jay Hemdal, a moderately well-known aquarium author, he's worked in nearly all aspects of the aquarium world (including public). I was very keen on having some of his work in my collection, but the particular book I was after very much overlapped my current literature. Had to give it a skip.

I was very much on the dark side to varying degrees before - years back I had several brackish setups, and one large marine tank, solely for moray eels. I will go back again eventually, but I have a few freshwater projects I'd like to attempt before heading back that way.

    @SalmonAfrica

I seem to recall having seen that book by Hemdal.
And I do think that there wasn't anything in it that wasn't covered elsewhere.
I will possibly get it some day anyhow.
At the moment, I am tending to buy books on specialist groups (Ie sharks, Discus etc). Rather than general fish keeping books.
