at the start of summer last year I put 5 guppies in my pond. I now have more than 300. these things breed like crazy.

This morning I sold 20 pairs to a petshop, made more than double what I paid for the original 5. seem like a win.

Most of the females are either brown or yellow, but some of the males came out quite nice.
    Will post some pictures tomorrow

@RABUBI . Would winter temps kill the guppies ?

Guppies survive (not ideal) up to 10 degrees then Die off.
I took all of them out of my bigger (4500L) pond and put them in a smaller one I am heating with a 150W heater to keep water temp between 15-20 Degrees.

Not ideal, I know, so I am now selling them (cannot post here as I have not reached the bureaucracy 50 post limit yet...)

We are very fortunate that if you want you can get some seriously beautiful trios from a few LFS shops - well before 2020 happened - they are not cheap - but if it is your thing, nothing should stand in your way from getting a tank full of them via a good breading program.

I am more a pick a mix kinda guy, so I like to add females that are pre-hit from the LFS to my stock when I think things are getting a bit familiar. A QT setup is a must - esp if you are not very familiar with the LFS's stock source and own processes in handling livestock. If nothing goes pear shaped I seldom find dead fish ... and always like seeing a tank grow to its own stocking levels.

Fry that are born in my tanks seem to be more hardy than bringing new stock in on mass - hence the pre-hit females, all they need to do is give me that single drop and I am more than pleased - somehow if she is pre-hit and at the certain stage, the other males in the tank tend to leave her alone abit also so that helps in reducing stress I would think. So I have never bought a trio ...

Since I am back to a pepper grinder for feeding fish food, I have seen better growth of fry in the tanks ... I suspect they are getting more access to food. Yeah guppies get slow below 15 and hit a point of no return around 12 or so degrees for me. I now bring them back in for winter.

Damn Corona causing all sorts of distress, all the LFS I have been to recently have zero good stock, and shipping from other provinces is a no no :(

Lets get the fish and chips flowing first then we can ask for the rest ;-)

You have some of the best Guppy breeders in CT (Well that is if they are still in the hobby).

@Hendre - you still have contact with Dirk, is he still around ?
