I decided to use quilting material/wadding as opposed to filter floss as it is very cheap compared to petshop filter floss.

My question is, should I wash it before use as I do not know if it may contain any chemical residue that might be harmfull?

I use wadding myself. I would just rinse it of before putting it in my sump. I might sound stingy but I rinse them every week with my normal wc. It will only show whare after a few rinses.

With the Discus I feed alot together with many water changes. Easier for me to replace. But thanks. Will rinse under the tap before using.

The only material I found at one of the fabric stores in CT was mohair, was R20 odd for a big bag. Im not sure if its ok to use though, and I cant find any info on the net.
    Anyone use it before?

I do the same... at the end of three days that top layer is so.. so bad that i wont even attempt washing it!!

I usually put three or four layers on a Sunday and then during the week as needed just peel off the top layer and throw away
By the next Sunday Im usually at my last layer and I start again

I have never really rinsed mine
Those rolls usually come wrapped in plastic so I havent really bothered to

Chamdor fabric shop has massive rolls of the stuff. Just worried it may contain fite retardent chemicals.

Its what I'm worried about as well. Do you think just rinsing it would be enough if it has some fire retardant chemicals?
What type of material is it?

I have been buying from those rolls at Chamdor for the last three years with no problems and if there was a problem, the new born pups would be affected straight away
    Its safe.
