only sealed the lower filter hole and make the outlet holes to better circulate the water around the heater

So i found this on my driftwood, did a water change and took it out to get a scrub down but after a day its back but only on the wood no plant or rocks affected. Does anyone maybe have an idea what it could be?

It’s normal for driftwood to develop this in the beginning, and it will go away by itself as the tank matures a bit.

If it annoys you, you could scrub it with a toothbrush (while still in the tank) then syphon out during water change. But it will come back during the first couple of weeks. I suggest not taking the wood out to scrub it, cause this will also kill off the beneficial bacteria developing on the wood, which are important for the cycling process.

Btw shrimp and snails love eating that stuff, so once your tank is ready for live stock it should disappear quickly.

Cool. If you do take the wood out of the tank to scrub, then perhaps do it during a wc in dirty tank water, keeping it submerged during the process.

    Plants are growing really well!
Could it be diatoms (“dust algae”) on the stones, which is common in a new tank?

i don't think its diatoms, when i scrub the rocks with a toothbrush it comes of as white dust/flakes.

Oh...that doesn’t sound too good. Is it increasing your pH and water hardness significantly?

that i have no idea will only be able to test after lockdown end. but i will be swapping out the rocks, have a feeling they may have something like a lime or calsium deposit running through them. Thats all that i can think of that makes white flakes and dust

That sounds like a good idea in the interim.
You could also start a separate thread asking the specific question, and get more people’s input.
