    Hey guys!
So I'm going to be setting up a flowerhorn tank with what is eventually going to be a breeding pair of flowerhorns, they will be the only ones in the tank.
So I am going for a dark and mysterious look in the tank and I wanted to know if any of you know where I could get the sand in the picture I will post at the end, I am told that it is called CaribSea Sunset Gold?
Also if any of you are selling flowerhorn fry/juveniles just pm me and I will buy some from you.

    Russ Fairburn's pics are awesome!

Wouldn't a black substrate be more dark and mysterious?

Re:playpen sand, hahahaha no it's not, it's called CaribSea Sunset Gold I think lol?

I know I compliment him every time I see his pics! His mikulas are the most beautiful cyphotilapia I have ever seen.
As for the dark sand,it probably would but I'm going to paint the back of the tank black and there will be wood, I just feel that it would be too dark if I use black sand. Here are a few pics of sort of what I am going for but just with the CaribSea sand.i do not have copyrights for these pictures so I will post them until I'm asked to take them down.

Awesome project. I love flowerhorns. Have owned many awesome ones and bred some aswell. My first question is what size tank did you get? Good luck with getting a pair to live together. You will most likely need a divider. My female went through multiple males that were twice her size. And only successfully kept them together and got them to spawn through a divider.

So you have experience with flowerhorn breeding?
I have got a 60gallon tank and I was going to put a divider I from the start, these fish are going to create funds for setting up another frontosa tank hahah!
Say how many tanks will I need for this breeding program? I wish thinking just the parents tank and a 100litre grow out/nursery.
    Thanks in advance,
    Jordan.

Do you still breed them, if so can I steal some fry?
Or if not do you know of anyone who breeds them near Randburg? Not looking to spend more than R350 to R500 per fish.

Wil definitely need a bigger tank than a 100l. When the actual breeding took place it happened in a 4foot tank but they were scattered between an 800l and 1000l tank at other times. Your best bet would be to find two fish from different parents and either grow them up together with a divider or in seperate tanks. These guys for some reason don't like other flowerhorns at all haha. Sadly I don't breed them or even have any any more. I am however looking for some good quality ones if you find.

If your willing to break the bank, contact Jack Stone at Stone Aquatics, he has a contact where he can sometimes get AAA quality flowers.
I only have the 100 liter (I think it's a bit bigger, 150 maybe?) but that is for the fry, to grow them out.
I will be upgrading to probably a 75gallon tank in about a year and a half, when they get too big. I'm planning to get a whole group of small FH and let 2 pair up and then sell the rest.
    Jordan.

May be different for you but from my experience I have only been able to grow them together till about 10cm and due to them being hybrids it is not so easy to find a fertile male. Does Jack stone have or does he have a contact to import some ?

Here are pics of 2 of the males I had when they were each about 15cm. They got a lot bigger and we're still quite young here.

He has a wholesaler where he can sometimes get some.
From what I understand, Flowerhorns don't have problems with fertility?

So apparently, if flowerhorns have red eyes then it means that they are fertile, yellow means 50% chance and white eyes means that they are
    Probably not fertile.
Fertility problems usually occur with line breeding.
