Background: The male and female is brother and sister coming from my red half black breeding. This is what you may get when you breed not so dark red half black females with a Tequila Sunrise male :

Description: These are stunning. The male shows yellow, red, orange, purple pink blue, green and white.

The female shows some fluorescent. At this stage they both shows a rounded tail.

Goal: I would like to intensify the colors. I would like to make the yellow in the dorsal a trade mark of this line. Fixing a line will also be a goal.

My plan: The male and female will be bred to each other and then I will either breed best sons to mother, daughters to father or sisters to brothers.

The tank: I got some very nice plastic pet insect containers for R45 each at a local shop. They are big enough for trios and the fry. Only gravel, plants and one apple snail is added.

They're beautiful already... Any improvements will surely be a winner. Just a question as you have spent some time on guppy specific sites; is it not considered important to have the same coloring in the dorsal and caudal fins?

The first batch is growing out. They are about 50% grey and 50% blond/gold - will see if the coloring is sex linked.

Would be really nice if you could breed that red to cover the whole body.

I am not even going to try.
My guppies will stay in a community tank, together with all the other fishes.

As mentioned in the snakeskin thread, it does take a lot of tanks for breeding one line. I have selected all the blond fry from this line breeding and placed them in one container. Except for removing grey fry, from now they will be left to their own devices. The lucky packet will be sorted once a month and the best ones put back.

    New line from this breeding.

Now I have three different lines from this breeding.

The yellow tail line is the biggest surprise of the three! I got the male showing this coloration first but quite a few of his sisters is showing this coloration also. I am separating all the females showing this. The first few batches of fry will have to be discarded - their father can be anyone of his brothers and I do not have the space to grow them out. This will also give the sisters time to grow out and for their colors to settle.

    The male and his sisters:

Gray males a few weeks later.

The males from the gray line a week weeks later:

They are smaller than their blond brothers, but the dorsal and tails are going to be massive in relation with the body size.

Got some very interesting results from this breeding: For the sake of the competition I will enter these as my end results:

    a17.jpg a14.jpg group.jpg

The goal I set for this breeding was not achieved - the male was too young when I selected him and the round tail and yellow dorsal was not set. But it was fun getting so many different outcomes from this cross - the nicest being this massive male:
