Thank you for your reply @lennard!

Check post one, the red in the male's tale surrounds the yellow to almost form a perfect little yellow circle in the middle. This is absent in this young male, but who knows, maybe he still changes a lot.

I would love longer dorsal fins on them, but this is something I think that can only be selected for at a much later stage when the guppy is quite old, like you said, the dorsal keeps growing. Another difficult thing is that out of 11 fry I got one male. But my plan is to get the 10 females as big as possible and add them to the tank with the father and 3 mothers, just so that I can produce as many as possible.

And I do believe the shape and the coloration on the young male's tail will change. I also believe in the more the merrier- do you have containers to grow them out?

If possible don't breed with the new females that show too much fading color towards the lower part of their tails- it does seem that this is very dominant.

@lennard, I also believe that the tale of the young male will change a lot in shape and lets hope the color changes to what I am looking for.

I let the females drop in the same tank where the male breeds with them, and I have about 95% of fry survive like that, the less tanks around the better for me. I then grow them out in there to an almost sexable size where I then move them to a breeding net in my 50cm cube. As I start seeing a new male I just move him over into the 50cm cube which houses a bunch of other random guppies.

I will get pics of the adults again as I think their color changed a lot since the first post, the females almost have fully colored tails, one actually does. Therefore I don't mind just breeding all the new females back to the father. :)

Also thinking of getting another grow out tank. Keeping fry apart is taking a lot of space.

@Vis it is difficult yes, even more so when new females must stay away from the males..

I have just separated the next bunch of fry from the parents, they are around 1.5cm in size and all of them are already showing color in the tails. Picture was taken with my phone with the flash on so they look a bit different in the pic, but here they are:

Unfortunately the father and one mother which I started with have died. I have also moved all the new females/youngsters back to the breeding tank. I am to scared that they get mixed with my random guppies in the growout net holder in my other tank as one female already jumped over to the random guppies.

My question is, which male must I put in the breeder tank now? One of the males that I decided against from the start or the son of the one that was the breeder?

    Hi

Because you'd strain is already fixed and you only want to improve it you will be fine with crossing the brother to the best looking sisters.

The young male will now be breeeding with all his sisters and his two 'mothers'.. I am not going to select against females now unless they look completely different from what they should. The aim is to get as many females to breed as possible so that I can have more males to select from later.. But the females are still young and only a few might be capable of breeding now..

Glad to see you are showing some activity on the forum again @len.weideman ;)

Thanks, but they haven't received as much attention as in the beginning of the challenge(studies are a bit hectic at the moment). They are all just in one tank now..
