    Hi everyone.

I have a female guppy Fish that just doesn't look right. Her scales seem almost like they're sticking up but she isn't swollen as if it's dropsy.

I was treating her before for what seemed like a fungus all over her body, and I used kanaplex, but now it's finished and she still doesn't look good, but there I don't see any fungus on her anymore

I have been doing weekly water changes, and I saw on another thread you guys mentioned garlic and tea, so I've put in a tea bag in the tank and am busy soaking some garlic in water to use when I feed them later..

Keep up with the garlic but looks like you have worms with the sunken belly. Look out for some nemarid or metroplex.

I only got her last year November, but then I suppose that doesn't guarantee she was still young from the lfs?

Oh OK! I have nemarid so I'll give it a try. Should I do the rest of the fish as well seeing incase they have it too considering they were all together when I noticed her getting ill?

Hmm don't feed live food because I'm a bit paranoid about what could be brought along with it, and I haven't added anything new in the last few months. Only change was putting in a canister filter that had been sitting unopen in a garage for a while, that was just before lockdown.
Is it also possible they came with worms but were dormant until some changes? Only things that have changed is the temperature, I increased it to see how they would do if I ever added some rams, and 2 guppies got dropsy and died and I never found out the cause, and since then I've been having a bit of a battle keeping the temperature where it was before

The temp change would definitely add to worsening the issue. Like most tropical parasites an increase in temp will speed up the process.

You said that you treated for fungus before this was the fungus like patches over her? Could be skin damage due to the fungus. Also nemarid worms works from experience if give in their food and repeated once every 2 weeks.

Yip it was patches all over. So that could be possible...
So when I soak their food in the garlic I'll add the nemarid as well to feed.

Thank you @f-fish @Barry Roux and @Kiaan26 for your help!!!

My puffer had it. Caught it and treated it within 12 hours. Used salt for the slime coat and methylene blue for the fungus after a 25% water change. The fungus was cause by high amounts of organic matter in the water. The longer the fungus is on the fish the more likely the fish's skin has bee damaged. Mine took 4 days to return completely to normal. The fungus was dead but still on his body for 2 days. Tried to remove it by rubbing it off with the a tweezer and it was working but I didn't want to damage the slime coat or stress the fish more. Eventually it comes off. If the fish is healthy enough then they should recover.

The worms are an secondary thing to the patches the problem os most fish come standard with gill flukes these day. To be honest i dont think she will make it, but first treatment would be nemarid. Give it a break a week or 3 amd some wc remember when the worms come out off all the fish the tanks needs a good vacuum or a few. The move to something like prazipro. If you do youse an full prazi treatment then all new fish will need an qt treatment of nemarid and prazi. It does sound like alot but worth it alao keep going with garlic.

Glad he got better! Sadly I don't have Marine salt or methylene blue..

OK I'll keep those up, and in the future I'll get prazipro and start quarining any new fish with it.
For the mean time I'll keep up with the garlic and nemarid as you say, and keep up with water changes and vacuums.
And I agree, it's a lot but people do just as much for dogs and cats and fish deserve the right care just as much

    Thank you guys again!

I use normal aquarium salt. I've also noticed that a lot more guppies have been coming in to shops and after a while they develop this problem. Lost a lot of fishes cause of parasites from a new guppy. Had to deworm all my tanks for 4 months before I saw no signs of the parasite.

Salt helps alot but its not an cure its basically helping the spot which it infected not to get more infected. Also remember salt does not evaporate so only replace the amount of salt lost in water changes. Nemarid wil only deal with internal pests. Prazi wil help internally but mainly gill health.

Yeah kiaan did mention he used the salt just to help with the slime coat.
Soon as lockdown let's up more I'll see where I can get some prazipro.
