Half barrel tank idea

    Hi enthusiasts,

    I'm new to the forum so not sure under which category this should be posted, but taking a stab in the dark here.

    Im considering a tank build and need some advice on materials, suppliers and just any other useful considerations.

    The idea:
    Semi circle tank. I have a large circular hole in a wall going straight through. 75cm wall thickness and also 75cm radius hole. Want to cap the front and back with acrylic or something maybe to a height of 40cm or so. So bottom of tank will have a radius of 75cm and front and back would be flat plexi.

    Structurally has anyone done this? What material would be recommended? Thickness and braces required? And the big question, who does custom acrylic like this?

    Any advice would be great. Hoping for a lively chat. Thanks guys and gals

    I really think so. Just up against a wall in terms of where to start contacting companies who do plexi/acrylic sheets. Any ideas? Ideally in Pretoria/Gauteng area.

    Bowfront tanks were quite popular at one point.
    Not so much these days though.

    Front and back would be flat, not bowed. Only the bottom will be rounded to conform with the whole shape.

    Any suggestions on material suppliers?

    Premium aquatics recently did a big acyclic tank. They close to Edenvale. You can also try idol marine however I'm not sure if they are still doing tanks for the public.

    Does the community have any thoughts on heating acrylics to conform to the bottom of such a tank? I.e. heat to allow for drooping into a bow shape?

    You'll have to use an oven but not sure if your house oven is big enough

    Most definitely not. Would a heatgun do the trick?

    Im sure there must be companies out there that can fabricate and bend according to a design?

    A heat gun could work but you'll have to keep moving it around so you don't create too much heat in one spot.

    Yes definitely. Idol marine used to do it that's why I suggested finding out if they still can.
