    Hey there guys and gals,

I'm Vernon. Pleased to make your acquaintance :)

I stay in Durbanville, Cape Town, for the last 4 years now. Moved here from Jhb for work. I can safely say I'll never be moving back up there.

I started my first tank in December, 2018. It was originally a Christmas gift for my girlfriend - but I have since taken it over. She loves and names all our fish though :)

Watching Youtubers like Green Machine, Joey(King of DIY), Goerge and Foo the Flowerhorn really opened my eyes up to the amazingly beautiful world of Tropical aquariums. My mom always kept fish, but also always in "artificial" setups (not that there's anything wrong with that), so that is what I knew about aquariums. I never knew that you could literally have a section of Nature inside a fish tank - go figure. I love the fact that it brings that connection with the outdoors right into your home, and there is nothing better than watching life finding a way wherever it finds itself. Being a bit of amateur science nerd, researching is honestly one of my favourite parts of the hobby.

My first tank is a bit of both - I've got some plants but also some corny decorations, I think they go well together though.

We're moving into our first home together on Monday. One of the conditions of the house was that it NEEDED to have a suitable fish room  I've got some awesome plans to further my knowledge and aquarium arsenal, and I can't wait to start experimenting.

Anyways, thanks for reading, and here is a pic of our first tank. The community consists of; neons, pairs of Mollies and Bronze Plecos, some Nerites and a dwarf Guorami amongst others.

    Chrs

Hi Vernon, it looks really nice and natural and the wreck blends in quite nicely.

I like the rock, do you know what kind of rock it is?

Is the plant in the center limnofilia? Tank looks pristine

    What’s the tank size?

Exciting prospect of a fish room! Good luck with the move.

    Hello, and welcome!

Nice tank - the rocks look great! I am also interested to know what fine-leafed plant that is in the middle?

The plant in the centre is Cabomba Caroliana (fanwort.)
Unfortunately another of the blacklisted plants that have spread due to the aquatic trade.

Thank you - how unfortunate that it is blacklisted. I am continually surprised by how many widely available fish and plants are blacklisted.
