This is the stuff of nightmares man. Happened to a friend at work last month over here too. Both his and yours where on a wooded cabinet without enough foam. I think the change in seasons makes the wood move and then bang. When you get it fixed foam the bottom so when the wood flexes there's some leeway.

It's a wooden cladded base, is a steel tubular frame inside. And a stainless steel base. So don't think that was it. I think a big Rock might have slipped and hit a crucial spot or something as it was only the front panel.

Looking at the photo, The break originated from the middle bottom front panel, this is where most of the pressure is present in a tank. Does the tank have bracing on the base and front panel and secondly how old is the silicone. I prefer to use Den Braven which is 2.6 times the tensile strength of Bostik Marine.

Yeah so it has the base layer of glass and then 20mm square pieces on top of that, that's where the sides were silicone to. I bought the tank 2nd hand so hard to tell how old but that is more than likely the issue.

I would suggest redo the whole tank, full strip down and use Den Braven silicone and let it cure for at least 3 weeks. it takes 24hrs to cure 2mm of silicone.

@Blade whats your input on foam on the bottom or doesn't that matter? Just weird the the tanks I saw go pop has no to almost no foam underneath.

@F4ckn, I agree with @Blade... I would re do the whole tank

The guy from Wazeers rebuilt my 2.3m when it burst a seam and he built Cesar's 3.5M
    Very good work

@BoelderBeestie , I have ran my 1650x500x500x10mm without polystyrene on postform top, but all my current tanks run on 15mm and 20mm polystyrene especially my 560L.

What did it cost you MariaS, did he do it on site and how long did it take?

Sorry to hear. Stuff of nightmares.
I would have the entire tank redone.

I think polystyrene is a must. If there is a small stone or even a small bit of dirt, it could cause problems without the poly.

It cost me just over 4k but, the whole front panel was replaced, we added another layer of glass at bottom taking it to 30mm so that was another panel, the tank was drilled and overflow built, and bracing was done all along top, bottom and the vertical sides.. it was not properly braced when I bought it
The tank is 2.3m so it was quite a bit of new glass replaced
They took about a week but I let it stand for a month

Yeah mostly one of the small cichlids seems to have damaged it's swim bladder from the fall so don't see much chance of him making it :(

Thanks I called them and they say they won't repair this one, so they are delivering a new tank tomorrow. So hopefully I can get it up and running tomorrow whilst the fish are in the smaller tank overnight.
