Right, you've sold me on LiveCopper, I think I'll give them a bash! I've been wanting to setup a dirt-bottomed tank, I reckon I'll give these lights a go.. BTW, are you planning on using these on high or low tech tanks?

    Low tech.

Oh I forgot that I got a reply back - the fitting holders are not included with the globe. I also had another look at this - https://www.livecopper.co.za/products/gu10-downlight-lamp-holder - the reason why I chose this was because of the earthing wire. Safer than those cheap ones with wire tails only. And much more convenient too as you won't need to source other parts for it except the globes. Unless you want to get the downlight frame as well if you want a neater asethetic look when doing a DIY panel with a cover on top of the electrical parts.

You're welcome. Be sure to chat to JP Gouws - he was very very helpful with all my questions.

I also use the LED down lights with the adaptor on my 3ft low tech. Normal light fittings.[IMG]

LOL that's brilliant but too big for the setup - I have wood for the sides, I still need to measure them and see if I need to cut longer pieces.

You can see I prefer no canopy on my tanks. IMO it makes the tank stop at the top

Just gives you a better view of the tank.

This might help you get acquainted with lux meter apps on your cell if you use android

The three in the middle are the ones i use to compare my lighting. I go around testing the led globes and compare to what the manufacturer websites state, then add the values to rotala butterfly in the form of watts and number of bulbs including the beam angle and if it states lumens/w, add that too.

Woo! This was money well worth spent!!!

Lightmeter shows 9lx across all three apps so if I add 2 or 3 to this tank, i will get between 18lx and 27lx

Two of the globes / fittings are going into Freya's Garden. I'll be getting more of them for the other two tanks.

Price is not too bad for 3 of them - fittings and globes alone R402 and shipping was free but I asked the guy to please deliver to my mother in town when she was at work today. Awesome service from JP Gouws - a big thank you to him for making the effort to get it delivered to my mother.

EDIT: Oh and the best part of these is that you can replace the globes after they expire. No need to keep on buying new stuff like I did in the past with led chips and strip lights and whatnot.

Haha @f-fish - my mother works in Wembley, which is on the other side of town. I also go there when they need me to do some filing work.

Mkondeni is the market area / industrial area too. Plus there's the driving test station and I think they have a weighbridge too.

Mooiriver is an hour away from PMB anyway.
