Hi Grand welcome to TASA. Befire @MariaS demands it you have to post pictures of your aquariums. Yes, that means you must have more than one.

    Welcome to TASA.
As stated, we are a simple folk here, and prefer to read the pictures and look at the words.

As requested, please see pics of my 2 aquariums below.

1.5 meter with what I like to call "my monsters"

Next up is my 1.2 meter, work in progress. This aquarium will hopefully be home to many generations of fish, shrimp, snails and plants.

Just for fun another picture of Tory, the fish that stole my heart and got me back into the hobby. She is my pride and joy.

    Those tanks look great.
What substrate are you using in your planted tank?

    Hi Pezulu,

I am using Langa and root tabs in "planters" then capped off with pool filter sand and a wee bit of crushed coral.

I took a pic during the setup

Welcome fellow OSCAR lover. I also absolutely love these fish. Although they do grow up to be big "Monster" fish, I think they get a bad rapp in the hobby because few people realize how big they will get and cannot handle them once they get big.

They are very personable fish and do as you say steal your heart, so much so that during a recent shopping trip a few months ago in boksburg, I ended up coming home with a little baby oscar and he has certainly stole my heart.

Good luck with the new tank setup it looks awesome some far.

Very nice idea with the planters for the Langa. Pfs is way cheaper, to cover a 4ft, than R3000 worth of Langa

Thanks everyone. You lot make me feel quite welcome and safe to express myself.

There is nothing worse than people bashing your efforts right off the bat, I'm sure there are other ways of doing things and probably smarter ways too. I respect this community already.

I have been part of other communities both with aquariums and other hobbies, where it just seems like everyone wants to be the best and it's their way or the highway.... What a put off
