Hi everyone I my name is Altus. I have been in and out of the hobby for many years. A couple of months back I decided to start back up and do things properly. After reading most of the material on this forum and following a couple of the very interesting threads, I started off on the journey. At the moment I have a 3 foot planted community tank going. My daughter insisted on getting "that one with the beautiful fins" ie. a Betta, so after the tank was properly cycled he was added to the 10 Danios I used as starter fish. A couple of shrimp and 2 Ancistrus also found their way into the mix courtesy of another forum member. I donated the Danios to a LFS close by, as they started to harass my shrimp, so now I am on the hunt for some tank mates. I am looking to get an SAE very soon, as some BBA has decided to make it's way appearance after getting some more plants into the tank. So far I am really enjoying my tank, and on the verge of getting another one.
Hi @Altus and welcome to TASA! Your tank looks great already, well done Looking forward to updates on your tank and hope you chime in on other threads!
Hi, and welcome to TASA. Your setup looks good. The Betta is going to enjoy the shrimp. It is a voracious predator, and will even harass the adult shrimp to death, then eat them piece by piece.
Hi Pezulu I am already gearing up to move the Betta into his own tank. I still need to decide if it will be a 30L or 60L. Will definitely also be a planted tank. That will open up my options with regards to the community tank inhabitants quite a bit.
Glad to see that MTS has already left a calling card. Bigger is always better, but with a Betta I think a 30 or 45L tank would be ok, if the fish is kept on its own. From what I gather they aren't very sociable fish.
If my SO plays along, I already have plans for at least a 4 foot and some smaller ones for a breeding/QT setup.
Hi Altus Looking good! That betta is in good nick, looks a lot like mine. If he's gonna be on his own, a 30L should be plenty. I'm kind of in the same boat, as my betta in my community tank is harassing everyone.
I had a Betta a couple of years ago that was so chilled. He even got along with male guppies and various other fish that should not really have been placed with him. This one has a total different temperament.
For the most part this is true but I have a male Betta who doesn't touch the shrimp in my tank. In fact he doesn't bother anyone. This is of course rare..
That betta is a stunning colour! The tiny red coloring on his pectoral fins just makes him look even more pretty!!!
Hi Altus, Your tank looks fantastic! I am particularly impressed with your hardscaping. What light are you using, and where did you find it?
Hi. Thank you for the compliments. The light is the Odyssea EA-90. I found it at Brackenfell Pets for a real good price compared to the other regular LFS in the area.
Welcome, Altus. Your tank is amazing! I really like the shape of the driftwood. It adds a lot of character. Looking forward to seeing some updates as you go
Thank you Lowflyer. I will try to get some more pics posted. I removed a lot of plants with BBA on them over the weekend, and finished off the tank with more dragon rock. I have also added some more tank mates. I cannot wait to move the Betta to his own tank.
