Well that didn't last long lol.
The narrow trunk was really bugging me, so I started trying a few other things. Problem is, once you move one thing you can never go back to exactly how it was.
Anyway, I've now moved the piece of wood from the front right corner to use that as the trunk instead.
I'm still busy, need to still sort out one or two things, but I think I'm happier with how it's looking now with the wide trunk.

(water has gone a little murky now with all the moving things around)

It always looks different in the photos somehow...
Anyway, I might (read: probably will ) still fiddle around a bit but ultimately I'm glad with where this is going.

Looking at the two pics now the previous one looked better, although the wider trunk looks better.
I'll probably try a few more variations later this evening before settling fully.

Nice to play around with hardscape until you like it!

    Going to be amazing

My vote is for the first one, looks more natural to me but both would be great!

I think I've found the tree I like.
    20210524_152932.jpg

I totally forgot about the piece of spiderwood in my planted tank I'd been planning to use.
Anyway, it's in now, and I went back to the narrower trunk.
I think this is how it'll stay.

I'm not sure about the rock placement though. I have no idea how to place rocks, they just don't feature in my imagination. But this rock really jumped out at me when we arrived at Namibian hardwood that I just had to get some. So I want to use it, just need to figure out best placement.
It's a bit hard to see it in the photo cos the water has gone a bit hazy now.
Small piece front left corner, and back right corner, and front right corner.
Big piece just to the right of the trunk.
2 medium pieces kind of in the middle.

Imo I'd get rid of the rocks on the right but I like lots of open spaces

Maybe get an extended piece of vine wood coming from the the top piece in one swift flow would look nice and still open

I thought I found a placement I liked, but then had to move it to put the filter in, and now I'm half considering removing all the rocks. I also like open space and that's definitely what I'm aiming for here, whilst still having a well planted tank.

Maybe I'll wait until the plants are in and then see if there are any boring spots that would be made better with rocks.

I might still add in a few more plants, but not much. I might also not lol.

Plants make this scape come alive. The piece of wood does not look out of place

    Great work thus far.

If you need more plants, just shout...I've got lots laying in tubs after pruning.
