    Hi Everyone,

I need help, last night i discovered my little Betta have ich (white spot) and I have no idea how to help him. The tank is at 27 degrees Celsius. All i had on hand was seachems paraguard, so i dosed him according to the instructions. He didnt look well when I left home this morning. It just appeared in a 2 hours frame. When i left home yesterday morning and came back at about 6 he was still ok. When I checked on the tank at about 10pm he was covered in it. I will add a picture. What meds can I give him i dont want to loose him. I got him about 2 weeks ago, now he's in a cycled heated 30 liter tank (by himself).

Hallo, take a deep breath, ( as I was told to do),
First are you sure it is ich? i think post pics when you can, if it is
bring the temperature up to max 30c, but over a few hours, so increase by a degree or so every couple hours. if you have a light on the tank, switch it off, it will cause less stress on the fish and help keep temps constant.
you need to understand the ich cycle to treat it, you can only kill ich once it has separated itself from the fish, increasing the temperature speeds this up. once the parasite has separated it has a limited time to find a new body to attach itself to, this is where you nuke it!! its important to do regular vacuuming of substrate to get rid of it, you can use salt to cure the itch the natural way or get yourself some meds available of the shelf at petshops. since you dont have any other fish, aquarium salt would be the better solution in my opinion ( since you dont have any other fish in the tanks and Betas respond well to salt).. this has been debated plenty on this forum - here is a nice article for you to read http://www.bettaboxx.com/betta-disease-illness/ick-white-spot/ .

    hope this helps
    good luck

I'm trying to post pictures but my internet is lagging. Thank you because i'm definitely freaking out. I do weekly gravel cleaning because I have a sand bottom and i'm scared that gas bubbles would form. But I will keep trying to post a picture, poor thing it looks horrible!

most important is to keep him as stress-free as possible, also if you can add an airstone to the tank as the heat goes up it would help aerate the tank. make sure the temperature changes are not drastic, and try to keep constant when you reach max temp.

it looks like mostly on the fins, its not as bad as it looks, im sure he will pull thru. if you not too keen on the salt you can get meds from the pet shops.. there are plenty products thats all do the job..

Petshops here are idiots! Ill try the salt but wanted meds for incase. I phoned about 3 petshops, 1 didn't know what ich or white spot is, one told me a betta shouldn't be in a tank larger than 2 liters (idiot) and third thought that ich is finrot so I had to explain what it is and apparently they only have prevent / stop ich (or something like that)

Thank you for all your help i truly appreciate it. I'm not sure what I will do if my 120 liter tank gets ich. I'm definitely treating with aquarium salt tonight and i will get an airstone in. Thanks a Million!!!

Are there other fish? Bettas are labyrinth fishes and can breate air just fine. But for other fish an airstone would be great.

Make sure to treat for several weeks to kill the whole life cycle, personally I use Marltons "anti ick" to great effect. Cheap too.

    Best of luck!

@Lorinza, good advice has been given and as has been said, he doesnt look that bad, Im sure he will be fine

Just one question as I couldnt make out for sure from your first post
Was he in the big tank when you first spotted the Ick and did you move him out of the big tank after he had Ick?

If that was the case, chances are your big tank will get Ick as well
I dont want to sound like the prophet of doom but its a possibility so keep a very close eye on the fish in the other tank for the next few days

Oh ill never do that, he's been in his own tank since day one, I'll never stress him out by putting him in with other fish, i first did my research on Betta's. I have another Betta also in his own tank (I have 2 x 30 liters and 1 x 120 liter)

Hi thank you for following up, he's actually doing great. The ich is almost completely gone and instead of doing only weekly water changes i'm doing them every second day. Just relieved he's feeling better.
