Importing (particularily) of plants.

There's a huge knowledge base here on TASA, and whilst many topics are discussed in depth, they may not necessarily be easy to locate and find. As members of TASA, the longer you hang around, and the more you read, your general knowledge obviously increases, but for those of you who haven't been around long enough to have come across the issue of importing plants, let me just bring the following up.

Importing plants via online store, friends overseas posting, or any other source is illegal in South Africa unless you have the relevant permit.

Tropical Aquarium SA have made it very clear to all members when you signed up, (the fine print that you all agreed to that you didn't actually read), that we as a core membership will abide by the rules, regulations and acts as set out by the South African Government. (and let me add here... we will abide by the rules REGARDLESS of the condition of any governmental agency, or how these laws are policed!)

Importations of plants need to be accompanied by a Phytosanitary certificate, which I can tell you most online stores will not offer.

If you guys find really good deals and wish to partake of a plant import, please can we request that you take the correct avenue and contact our sponsors. Most of them have got the relevant importing permits in place, and will be able to assist you. Importing in your own capacity without the permits is illegal, and TASA will not condone such activities.
