Good day everyone. My husband and myself are newbies to the tropical fishworld. We had koi ponds (dams!) for 25 years and enjoyed our beautifull pet kou fish. Some of them were 60-60 cm long and weight over 8kg. They each had their own name! We moved to Boksburg. No koi pond and decided not to engage in the endeavour of desighning and building a new koipond. We are now in the wonderfull and wierd wold of tropical fishkeeping. We have an 800l tank and a 80l tank. Our 800l tank has a sump filter that can contain 200l water. We planned the sump filter in almost the same way we develloped our massive biological and mechanical filters for our 40 000l koi pond. Just on a smaller scale. Our 800l tank is a community tank with tropical fish that are suitable for beginners: Fish in our tank: Fantail guppies Platties Rio tetras Silvertip tetras Neon tetras Red tip tetras Black neon tetras Head and taillight tetras 3 x 6cm kongo tetras Two pearl gourami's (8cm) (the congo tetras and the gourami's was given to us because the owner prefered aquascaping) Silver dollars 2 bala sharks 1 redfin black shark 6 Angelfish 1 golden pleco 1 sailfin pleco 2 leopard pleco's I test our water every Saturday with fluid tests. Our water paramaters are constant within the ideal paramaters. Ph 7, Kh 4, nitrites and ammonia 0, nitrates 25, copper and iron 0, phosphate 4. We plan our next aquarium. It will be at least 800l.
