So... I think I need to start a thread to record my Lady Starface.

Yep... we call her Lady because she is a real lady compared to Polka Dot who is an absolute hooligan

She is a Potamotrygon and is usually referred to as a P14, Itaituba or Galaxy...
For those who might be interested the P14 was officially named Potamotrygon albimaculata last year

    Quote:
In a paper published in the journal Zootaxa on 13 September 2016, Marcelo De Carvalho of the Departamento de Zoologia at the Universidade de São Paulo, describes two new species of Freshwater Stingray from the Rio Tapajós Basin of Brazil. Both species are placed in the genus Potamotrygon, and both have been known in the aquarium trade for some time, but this is the first time they have been formally described.

The first new species described is named Potamotrygon albimaculata, meaning 'white spots'; adults of the species are very dark-brown to black in colour with numerous white spotes on their dorsal surface. The species is found in the upper and middle reaches of the Rio Tapajós in Amazonas, Pará and Mato Grosso states, where it is known locally as the Pretinha do Tapajós (Tapajós Freshwater Stingray); it is traded in the aquarium trade as the 'Itaituba Ray', or simply 'P14'. The species appears to live in the deeper parts of the center of the river during the daytime, foraging in the shallower waters around the shore at night.

Anyway... Starface is also a female and arrived as a pup beginning of February this year and has developed very nicely so far

She eats fish, prawn, massivore, mealworms and off course their absolute treat.. earthworms
Those bellies can be about to pop but they will still gobble up earthworms if you give them some.
in fact if I give Flash an earthworm and just dangle it on top of the water, they smell it from whwerever they are and come running like they havent eaten in days

    Some pictures

When she arrived, she was a little bigger than Polka Dot on arrival

Very cool, like the other tankmates also, not to take anything away from the ray's but they all look very content about hanging around waiting for the next meal. Please shoot a video of them all during feeding time.

    Thanks @f-fish ....
Hahaha you think they very content and just lay around.... believe it or not, its a huge misconception... they are active.. you have no idea how much mischief they get around to
The pups are usually quieter and hang around the bottom but once they get to about 15cm disc, they everywhere.
They race the clowns across the tank, they up and down smacking the glass and playing in the bubbles or outlets of the filters and.. they play soccer... yes... no joke.. they play soccer with any stone they can lift
Last week, i kept hearing a sound like something hitting the tank but, when i checked all looked ok.. a few days later, i caught the culprit.. madam polka dot was lifting the stones and carrying them around so when she dropped them.. that was the noise i was hearing
So.. all stones that i think can be moved had to be removed from the tank.. she is now trying the bigger ones but they still a bit heavy for her so she bumps my wood around
They are actually very mischievous and full of character..

Feeding time in my tank is not a big frenzy... I know it might sound crazy but all my big fish are hand fed, The only food i throw in. is pellets and cucumber for my clowns.
Polka dot is taking from my hand already but little star face still takes from the tweezers
Im probably an old fool set in her ways but i like to know how much each one is eating as, like that, i can pick up something wrong straight away if they dont come for food... i also dont want fish and prawn left all over so it suits me fine like that and.. i enjoy the interaction with each one.. just takes a bit longer to feed i guess..

I will take some videos of the girls ad upload soon

Beautiful, Maria. Sounds like you have both hands full - to have them quite tame and interact with you is a good thing, easier to pick up if something is wrong.

    Thanks @top dog ...

I know it sounds too funny and it is to too funny to watch but i think that it's actually their way to look for food in their natural habitat

They go on top of the stones and curl or wrap their bodies around the stone trying to lift it, while doing this, they blow hard onto the sand throwing it out from under the stone and obviously anything else that might be there
I believe this is how they look for food which might be hiding underneath the stones.
