I've added my rocks. I have more, but I don't want to go for a certain look. The rocks on the right, which are the heavier rocks, are the heavier pieces with quite a small footprint (therefore more pressure per square centimeter) so I placed them on eggcrate. The rocks on the left or smaller with a bigger footprint, so I placed them on the sand where I'm hoping for the plants to populate the substrate.

Water has cleared up quite nicely. It seems, though, that my Cabomba Green still has some filamentis attached to it. I might to give it a citric acid dip. Pity, because they are started to grow new shoots and I always seem to struggle to get this plant to grow nicely.

New shoots on one piece can be see at the top.

Red and blue LEDs added. Hopefully will help with plant growth.

Hi everyone. I have struggled with cloudiness for the first time in my life.

The fish are happy, bright colours, no heavy breathing etc.

I ran out of test strips, so not sure what is going on. I did a 20% water change today and I added an airstone last night to see if it would make a difference(just taking a chance).

I tried using Seachem Clarity and have dosed with Prime 3 days ago with no luck.

Just to remind everyone of my filtration:
1 x Tidal 55 (matrix, Boyu biorings and lava rock)
1 x Sobo internal power filter (running floss only)
    1 x Sobo surface skimmer

The cloudiness seems to have a slight green tint to it, which makes me wonder if it is an algae bloom in the water column.

    Suggestions welcome.

I'd do some big water changes, about 50%, every day until the water clears up. Also try turning down or turning off lighting for 2 or 3 days

When my tank went green I tried everything, didn't work, until I tried activated carbon. In a week was clear. But I don't know if matrix is supposed to do the same thing as carbon but maybe try both?

Been running carbon in my Tidal since Friday and have done two water changes, Friday and last night. Water is beginning to clear a bit.

Also make sure its a good quality carbon, preferably the type used for water filtration systems. Usually the quality one will be made from coconut husks and will be a little more expensive, but it will work very well and also remove any possible toxins.

    Back to square one!

Should I do a 50% water change? It's been cloudy for more than a week.

Question, has anyone ever had cloudiness caused by Flourish Root tabs?

Nope. Sorry man.... could you add more plants? Did the citric acid dip help?

No finances for more plants at the moment, unfortunately.

Will try the citric acid dip when I transfer the Java Fern from my daughter's tank eventually.

It seems I'm going to have to sit it out and wait for improvement:)

What kind of carbon did you use? Crushed or pellets? Pellets never worked for me then @David Kusner gave me some crushed carbon and that's what fixed it up for me

I am a bit late in here but why are you using root tabs in that tank. There are no plants. Vallis will grow in anything without needing to add root tabs. I think you have too many nutrients in that tank which is why the algae bloom is happening. Also I see you have red lights - algae thrives off of red light.

Remove the root tabs if possible and cut your red light - thats my opinion anyway.

    Thanks @T. Guppy
I have cobomba green, pearl grass and another crypt planted. I am looking to add rotala colorata as well. Using root tabs to try to get the plants to grow better. My Vallis in my previous setup only took off when I had root tabs in.

I did read other articles where people had issues with other root tabs, but not Flourish. Wanted to check on here too

I hope not as it is illegal.

from your pic above you dont have anywhere near enough plant mass in the tank to justify the use of root tabs. Most of the plants you mentioned will do fine on liquid fertilization.

It was for sale at the LFS a long time ago. I have had it in my tank for a while now and it has never really taken off.

Rather than starting over and removing the tabs, are there some plants you could recommend that would benefit from root tabs instead of liquid ferts?

My lighting is quite strong, 40 Watts of Led floodlights which I keep running for 7 hours a day.

    Any plant suggestions welcome :)

@T. Guppy I bought some carbon today. Is this what yours looked like? I have taken out the pellets and added this.

Also, does anyone know what plant I have here? Also got a nice bunch of Java Moss:thumbup:
