Just thought its time to start a thread for my little girl

She arrived first week in February as a tiny 12cm pup, not doing too well
She was very small and took a lot of strain from the many hours of shipping.. we didnt think she was going to make it
In fact, the little male that came in with her didnt and died two days later

We named her Madam Polka Dot because as weak as she was, she has turned out to be a little terror full of nonsense
.. she is a Black Diamond

This was shortly after she arrived

    Wow cool
You can see how much color they lose from stress

    Thanks...
Yes, they do lose colour from stress but, they also not born a deep black.. they are grayish when they born and get darker with age

The P14 is darker at birth
The Henlei is born brown and turns black with age ..

That is a handsome fish. I'm glad she managed to pull through.

Any plans on getting any more to replace the lost partner? How about breeding?

Keep us updated, and if I may request at some point, a video of feeding. Such a pleasure to watch rays eat.

    Regards,

Wow you really know your stuff how long have you kept stingrays?
How big is you tank and which one is it?
How much did you pay and did you get it internationally?
Sorry so much to ask I just want to know, seems like a fish you would get to show off to people(NOT IN BAD WAY)
never seen a freshwater one in person

We were very lucky to pull her through..
I was just out of hospital at the time and Cesar actually nursed her through in his grow out tank..
Photos were taken straight away on arrival of the pups to show their condition and after a whole big investigation.. proof of where and how they were being housed etc .. the breeder replaced the little male but they didnt have any male big spots at the time so i agreed to a pair of Henlei pups
Will start a thread on them soon

Breeding is hopefully in the pipeline but Cesar had the King Leopoldi pair turning out with very big spots so we ok

I will figure out how to upload a video and try post it for you

We have had rays for just over three years.. its been a passion Cesar has had his whole life but they were blacklisted back then

He got me hooked on them.. you will only understand, once you own one.

Yes.. we had them brought in and yes... they expensive but you have to chose if you spending the money on one or two fish or a few fish
If you take a tank full of good quality discus, it will cost about the same

The idea if all goes well, is to possibly between Cesar's and mine, do some breeding which would then make them more affordable locally

Her tank at the moment is 2.4m by 70cm wide 70 high
The bigger tanks are 3.5 by 1.2m wide

    @MariaS
    Very nice.
Pity you lost one. Was it not eating when you got it?

    Thanks very much guys...

Reedfish...there was more than just not eating
The minute they landed Cesar sent me a photo and i said those babies dont look right..unfortunately i was right..

They were tiny.. almost like newborn pups.. few people i chated to agreed they were to small to have been shipped
It was a long flight.. altogether what 18h?
They were very grey and lethargic and just went into hiding
    I suspect some amonia poisoning...
I take my hat off and am very gratefull to Cesar.... I was just out of hospital at the time and couldnt stand and try feed her little by little for ages..if it wasnt for him she would have never made it
Well today you would never believe it.. she pounces on food like i havent fed her for a week... smacks anyone that takes food before her and pounces and blows on the sand if i dont give her what she wants

I must try do a video of her ...

In captivity the average record is about 50/55cm disc depending on environment, feeding etc..
Females always get a bit bigger
