Yes use a nice more darker blue then light blue.... this followin color from Builders is Mod Blue its crafters paint, I will be redoing my Tropheus tank soon with it. need to move tank away from wall meaning having to remove about 600 liters of water and scraping off the black it had on when I got it....:) whoop whoop :)

Thanks @hviviers75 I am not keen on painting the tank though going to see if theirs not an alternative. I was thinking I should go to Maize's plastic and see if they have something

Maizeys has 1.5mm perspex that works extremely well. you could also buy black stick on vinyl from them which works very well too

Sorry.. I missed your question yesterday

    You don't cut the bottle
Take a 2l bottle fill with sand and pour into the tank
As the sand falls, the murky water goes into the bottle and you throw it away

As for the colour, I like the blue but a rich deep sea blue, not too light either
If you have a piece of blue and black paper or material, test it out before actually painting.

Thanks @MariaS, I decided to drain the tank, I want to move it a bit away from the wall, as its to close. might as well do it now.
I decided to go with a dark blue vinyl I don't want to plaint the tank, just encase I change my mind somewhere along the way.

    Hi all

So update time, Let me start with why did someone not warn me how much fun it is to wash pfs:tt2:, OMW have a Sateryday
washing 1 bag of PFS by back was killing me. Anyway here's some picks. I changed the rocks as well to make it a bit more stable and more caves. Its amazing how fast a tank clears with a established filer.
Water was very cloudy Saturday, Sunday afternoon almost all clear. Going to make a plan this week sometime to get the Dark blue Vinyl for the background.

Hahhahhha @JDV... We told you it must be very well washed:):):)

Oh well... its done.. and well worth the effort because it doesn't take ages for the tank to clear

And... tank looks very, very, nice!!
I like a Malawi setup.. its different and has a beauty of its own

Oh trust me... I know the feeling!!!
Hehhhe my tank gets a rescape at least once a day!

The Geos are earth eaters and sift through the sand all the time looking for food so yes..

The rays.... they just LOVE testing my patience ALL the time..
Soil.. yes... they flap their wings and you have a crater in two seconds... I put the wood in one place and no sooner my hands are out the tank they deliberately go bite and push against the wood to move it!
Rocks.. well... anything under about 4kg gets lifted and dropped on the base of the tank or just moved around
