This is a disgrace!
Abominations as they are, they never last long.
The fish themselves are subjected to various torturous procedures just to get their skin/scales that colour. Many die during the process while others die soon after, either from infection or from poisoning from the ink itself.
What I hope is that this is just a fashion trend and nothing more. Hopefully people will get over it and see beauty in something else. Not to say the next 'thing' will be any better...
As hobbyists we should boycott ANY LFS that sells this sort of thing. The owner should know better than to stock this!!!
Just my 2c
what the hell, is that for real!!!
For heavens sake can't they rather use their time to design cool aquariums.
That is disgusting, those poor fish.
Hectic... but kinda reminds me of a family guy episode where Flanders tried to breed Jesus fish...
Shame, poor fishies.
I dont get the point of doing this to a fish
So far every person I have spoken to, have kept fish becuase of the "natural" look/Feel of it or the "calming effect" or they always trying to keep the fish in their natural habitat etc etc
Who wold want to buy something so artificial that just looks fake
If i wanted a glittering fishy i would just buy a plastic keyring, that cant die
I am actually totally against the FW prrot fish in general but alas to each his own
yip, i feel the same, as i have seen the "glowfish", the pink and yellow.... Danio's, to me thats nasty, as its not natural looking, and just looks odd
This is something that I really don't like. You shouldn't mess with things which is perfectly natural. It's just messed up.
I can't believe this! I'm just wondering why the animal rights people don't do anything about this....
Although i am a owner of 2 beautiful parrot fish (1 orange and 1 red) i do disagree what they have done to these 1's. Some people criticize me for owning parrot fish, yet i just say....they were going to be sold to someone anyway, so would you rather let me give them a nice home and take proper care of them, or would you rather let some random person who probably doesn't know a thing about fish take them? For me, it's like taking in a dog or cat off the side of the road, and giving it a nice, warm loving home, but i would completely object to the 1's shown in this thread.
They are and i've seen them at the fleamarket in Boksburg.
Maybe we all should make a list of those shops/places that sell them in our areas and do a silent protest in front of their shops/places of business.
That's not really fair on the shops. Although they should be better informed, bear in mind that shops can be sent some very obscure lists from wholesalers which don't say much about the fish, especially whether they're tattoed or not (eg: 'rainbow' parrotfish, assorted cories with some tattoed ones thrown in). Some shops bring them in because they sell, and those that bring them in with any regularity should be given some distance by any respectable fishkeeper.
Thats bloody mean. How would they feaal I chuck them in acid then paint or tattoo their whole bloody body?
