They are not flowering yet Maria.
Funny thing us I noticed a tulipfield in that part of the country for the first time.
Most tulips are grown in the Western side (where I live).

I promiss to make some pics for you when ready. Or just visit Holland hahaha.

That must be awesome to live nearby and be able to take a drive and admire them
Are those fields just like a .. tourist attraction and symbol for Holland or do the actually harvest for the flower market?
Would love to see the pictures... thanks!!

Last time I visited my parents in Portugal, I had to make a detour to Germany for the Sieger and Bunde Sieger Show which was always a dream of mine... Maybe if I go again I will do the Tulip fields in Holland... time will tell

Funny you're asking. Living here I don't realise a lot of people don't know.

They are there neither for tourists nor for the flowermarket. The flowers are cut of after a few days, causing the bulbs to grow and multiply. The bulbs are harvested at the end of the summer. The bigger ones are sold all over the world, the smaller ones are planted the next year again.

De Keukenhof is a kind of park only to show the flowers to visitors / tourists.
    That's only commercial.

There is a debate started about the pollutiom of bottom / water by used pesticides aso. That's the other side of the story.

    You visited Dortmund ?

Oh... ok.... That makes sense... didnt think of that..

You so right, usually Tulips you buy the bulbs to plant... and obviously they have to be multiplied ... so those fields is where they do it...

I think the debate on pesticides is a debate all over the World.. we have the same here..
We lost almost all the Eagle Owls in our area couple yeas ago because ofthe pesticides used for the rats in the mealie fields...

I was in Dortmund i think 1993.. When Jack van Noricum ran Sieger and 1995 in Hamburg when Ulk van Arlet ran Sieger
Visited Margit van Dorssen there and her kennels and we then brought in a bitch mated to Ulk van Arlet.
2010 in Nurnburg when Ober von Bad Boll was Sieger.. havent been back since then
We did quite a bit of driving around, if I remember right the Bundesieger Profung was in Salzuflen that year

Even if they only harvest the bulbs of the tulips that is one amazing site to see every year. Our Kosmos, growing next to the roads, doesn't come even near this.

In my youth students earned their (holliday)money there. I spend weeks and weeks in the fields hahaha. They are grown in nets nowadays and harvested mechanical.
