    Hi Guys

I am new to this forum.
I wanted to share my idea and what i have done. Not seen much around here in SA however there is tons of these divided tanks on the internet.

This is my divided tank. Currently have two Betta Fish in there. On the left is Habanero and on the right is Chilli.
The filters are DIY and running of a single pump. These fish dont like too much water movement so the flow is adjustable.

I have another 13 Litre tank with another betta which is called Jalapeno.
    Some pics of him

I also have some glass shrimp and apple snails in with them.

The divided tank was started about a month and half back. I just recently introduced my fish to the tank after cycling for about 3.5 Weeks.

Hope you guys like my setup and would like to make contact with fellow betta lovers and breeders in the Durban area.

    Thanks for watching

Welcome to the forum, the links you're using in your first post from smugmug.com are not correct, perhaps just upload the pics straight to the forum, or use a different image hosting service. Thanks. :)

nice one ... we have had a few betta barracks over the years ... think @Dinky is the only one that started off with a few thanks that is still around, not sure about the still doing betta thing.

We have seen a few extreme designs like

    srcn-intern09060312490-jpg.jpg

from https://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/threads/betta-barracks.709/ .. but that well who knows.

@WeirdSteam also did some very cool DIY ...

    proxy.php?image=http%3A%2F%2Fimg.tapatalk.com%2Fd%2F14%2F08%2F03%2F3udybymy.jpg

See https://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/threads/weirdsteams-bettas.21453/page-3 , not sure if he is still in the betta game.

Charles went big with 9 division in a 3ft tank

    9-div-betta-male-tank-jpg.jpg

See https://www.tropicalaquarium.co.za/threads/9-division-betta-tank.12997/ - don't think he is active on TASA anymore ..

To some degree divided tanks are in fashion again .. but not for betta fish, rather for shrimps.

Keep posted, and thanks for the pics .. it all helps.

    Hi f-fish

    Those designs are awesome.
Initially i wanted to do a similar setup but many fish in one tank can cause problems as betta's are susceptible to diseases very easily. Some say that they are very hardy fish but personally don't think so.

It started at getting poor advice from local pet stores just looking for sales. I used to keep them in 2L Marina Betta tanks with no filtration and weekly water changes. After doing tons of research and many fish being lost i noted that they don't live very long in those conditions. I had two fish in these tanks and started building my current setup which took about a month including the cycling.

On my setup i have a perspex divider which was made up for me here locally. I then drilled 88 x 4 mm holes in them. Took a long time but i got it done. This was done to ensure there is enough water movement in the tank. I also have 2 x DIY Filters and a heater installed.

I want to change the substrate to Fine White Sand but have visited every pot store in Durban and nobody has what i am looking for.
I also read about air pockets in the sand which is harmful to the fish.

    Thanks

The filter is a glass jar bought at any store for under. Size is a personal preference and depends on the size of your tank.
I have used a 25 mm pipe for the airstone and airpipe to be placed in. The bottom of the pipe has triangular shapes cut into it so that it does not sit flush on the bottom of the jar, hence allowing the movement of air and water.

The bottom of the jar contains gravel, polyfill and aquarium sponge at the top.

Love your tanks. Did you silicone the perspex dividers in to place?

    No real difference really.
Performs the same function as a conventional filter bought in store.

I could have added carbon inside as well but opted not to. Its just a personal preference.

It was a DIY which made it more interesting to actually build the entire set-up yourself. Gives a good feeling once you start to understand and learn more about the biological processes of your tank.

No. Got it cut to my tank dimensions. Filed off a bit and it slid straight in with a tight fit.
Used gravel at the bottom for extra support
Also another idea used was file binders along the edges of my tank. The ones on the front were two file binders cut to ensure they give a tighter fit to the divider

    Open an introduction thread.

But OT ... one filter is fine, careful for too much flow but make sure the water moves in on the one side and out on the other.

Maybe post a pic - so that we can understand the setup a bit better.
