@MariaS yes, they have a yellow/orange base colour and the blues are also a lighter blue than you normally see on turqs, a more metallic blue. I bought them as red turqs but they look like something else though. The foods I feed would have made them red already so don't know what they are anymore.

Here's the one I lost last year, was also something different and not your average red turq.

@Discusnut Been around lurking as the water restrictions where holding things back so had nothing to report but at it again now as we are in the clear it seems.

Here's my latest spawn at 10 days old.

My pb's also getting bigger and starting to show some white.

My 8 month old's from last year's spawn. I kept 20 for myself to see what they will look like and how big they will get under my care.

Haven't updated in a while, the 10 month olds are doing well and starting to round off nicely. Halfway there with them. The ones that I suspect are female are around 12-13cm with the males at 14-15cm. There's a few that's lagging a bit but nothing too serious. One thing is for sure and that's that they are hungry always.

The mods I made for my filters really made a big difference. Getting the filth out is key. Letting gunk get trapped in the filters just turns them into nitrate factories. I don't have to dump large volumes of water to keep the nitrates low anymore. My anaerobic filter is also helping a lot. I'm also not using the sponge filters as bio filters but as mechanical filtration, they also trap a lot of stuff quickly which is good for how I'm doing things.

I lost around 20 of them over the past few days but they are slowly recovering. I woke up to a low ph last Thursday with fish slimming and over reacted with the buffer. This totally destroyed the stability of that tank and they went into ph shock as the ph shot up came down and shot up again as I tried to get it stable. I used water from my other tanks to stabilize the water as per the Prof's advice, this saved the rest, colour came back and they got up and started swimming again. I had to break quarantine to do this but will rather handle flukes or flagellates than watch my fish die. I will be throwing out the buffer and will be adding more shells to the filters instead, like I should have done from the beginning. I have been using a buffer for a while now without any problems, all it takes is one screw up. Never again, enough of this cowboy nonsense for me.

@BoelderBeestie ouch! Sorry Bro! I had the reverse problem when keeping Discus, my water is just too hard with way too much calcium and magnesium for Discus, so I eventually sadly gave them up for Tanganyikans. Again sorry for your loss, I feel for you Bro'!
