A person who I know from a specialist plant forum was after some of my rare ferns. So we did a swap.
He sent me 3 different Lotus stolons in exchange for the ferns.

These are hardy. As long as they can bulk up sufficiently over the summer.

He sent me 3 different varieties.

So I went to the hardware store and bought 3 of these 40 litre tubs.
Sprinkled some slow release fertiliser on the bottom. Then 2/3 filled with a loan based soil. Shallowly planted the rhizomes. Another few cm of soil. And then a cm or two of gravel.
    And then filled with water.

Was thinking of putting them in my pond. But I think these tubs may take up too much space

If you hhad enough space in the pond, that would be ideal.... time for a bigger pond!!

The pond I am planning has to be in proportion to the garden
    So can’t be too big

There is a deep pink, a very bright yellow, and a pale yellow with pink tips.
Person who sent them to me said they may take a season to establish, so may not flower this year.

So it seems that my pond is not going to happen. Well this summer anyway. :(

Builder came back to me with quote which was 2 1/2 times higher than his original guestimate. And I know what happens with these projects. There are always unplanned issues that come up that push the costs up even further.
And last week my rather old car developed a fundamental issue that was going to cost a fortune to repair. So I decided it made more sense to replace it.
    One of life "curve balls".

I could go for a much smaller pond, but it's not really what I want.
So have decided to shelve the project for the mean time. Perhaps next year or the year after I will see if it's an option.

In the mean time I will keep these 3 Lotus tubs on the grass, and hopefully they will be ok.

A bit disappointing but as you say, life happens...

2,5 times the original guesstimate?? What are the issues pushing up the cost so much?

I don't think he has done a pond (or any garden work) before.
The cost of the filter was one of the main components that he had completely underestimated. And the cost of the rocks for the waterfall effect that I wanted to create.
    Among other things

So these tubs are absolutely filled with Mosquito larvae.
Am thinking of scooping some out and feeding to my fish.
The tubs have never had fish in them, and have only been going for 2 months.
Doubt there are other nasties in them.

Just as they started getting going
The wild pigeons destroyed most of the leaves.
So yesterday evening emptied the tubs of water, managed to get them into my greenhouse. And then refilled.

My greenhouse is so full as it is.
And if the Lotus flower I want them to be seen.
So not really what I had in mind.
I could have put up some sort of protective mesh. But that wouldn’t have looked nice.

    I am so annoyed.

I went into the greenhouse and shifted some pots. So that at least I can move around in there
