The only listed blacklisted snails in the blacklist Are:

    Giant African snail (Achatina fulica)
    Rosy wolf snail (Euglandina rosea)
Marbled tadpole snail/Slender bladder snail (Aplexa marmorata)
    Amphibious pond snail (Lymnaea columella)
    Quilted melania snail (Tarebia granifera)

So in essence, No, they are not blacklisted.

Why then so difficult to get hold of?
Have some algae and from Google understand these to be a good countermeasure.
In the interim have done more research and found the following I could try:
SAE - Siamese Algae Eater - top of the list, have not been able to find any at my lfs :-(
Sail fin Mollies - not as effective it seems (varied feedback from forums). The prettier of the Molly species fro me :)

On the Mollies my experience is that they do help counter algae as my tanks where I keep mollies don't build up algae as quick as say my goldfish tanks. They main thing however is to find the reason for algae build up. Mine was overfeeding. Some members here can help identify the reason.

the siamese algae eaters aren't too hard to get a hold of... magic gardens nursery has some of those guys. as for why they are hard to get a hold of... well, so far no one has really actually physically tried to import them. they get discouraged by most hearsay :/

I usually buy my Nerite snails from a guy who has a stand next to the taxi rank at the township close to my place.
He also has vampire, bamboo and amano shrimps.
    All sold by kg.

Algae I have that I need to get rid of is Beard Algae (seems was introduced by plants). Tried cleaning off but it sticks. Don't want to go the bleach route yet as my plants are still settling.
From what I read best fish would be SAE (not seen a true SAE at one of my 4 lfs)....then read that Mollies also has a go at it (available everywhere)

True SAE have the black stripe all the way to the end of the tail fin.
It's quite easy to make the difference.

Saw 2 flying foxes but Google made sure I did not make the mistake between them and sae.

Anyone know of an lfs in gauging west that has true sae?
Even prepared to start looking at centurion

Regarding the snails bought some in 2012. At animal kingdom, and have since never found again......you can import some they work much better than SAE!!
