Hi all, I've been reading through the posts here and there is some interesting set ups. I have a 25l tank that I've just set aside for cleaning, the guppies I had in there I have moved to my new 4ft/220l tank after I got through the nitrogen cycle. I'm very quiet on here since I don't have a lot of experience to help others and at the same time I haven't had many problems that weren't easy to fix myself :D

Its been a week, water is still stable so now its time to add a few fish with the guppies :) Problem is, my local fish shop doesn't have what I'm looking for... Does SA courier fish like they do in other countries or are our mailing systems not up to scratch?

Hello and welcome. I am sure someone can help you out. Yes people do courier fish around the place. From my experience it is usually a group order. I have never asked anyone to send me anything on my own.

Home breeders? I never thought of that... there are probably a few in KZN as well so might find some luck. As for stock, I'm split between 2 setups, 1: keep the guppies, add neon tetras (~12) and corys (~8, pandas if possible) with cherry shrimp, ie: small fish theme. 2: big fish theme, maybe pearl gouramis, a bristlenose pleco and maybe something else but I'm not yet sold on big fish... OH big fish = remove guppies back to my 5g :p

Hi @Slade, and welcome to the forum

As @Ammar said, the Forum is not for experienced fish keepers only, its for everyone from total beginners to the more advanced hobbyist
After all, we all started somewhere

We are here to share our setups and knowledge when we can help and learn as well, as you never stop learning
We love to see pictures and everyone's setups

Its also nice for you to start a thread on your tanks and update it as you go along as in the future you have recorded what you have done and achieved which is nice to go back and see.

As Ammar said... hahhha.. making the Minister happy is half the battle won for your next 4ft!!

Thank you very much, I don't have proper lighting yet as it's still being delivered but I'll still make that tomorrow's task, pictures and a tank thread :D

As a side note, I'm on the Facebook group as well and just wanted to know if there are any rules on here/there for looking for local breeders so I can source the fish I'm interested in? And if there are rules then if someone can be so kind as to pointing me in the right direction... thank you :D

    That's great!

If you running a business as a breeder you cant advertise on the forum as its against the sponsor policy

However as a hobbyist if your fish happen to spawn, you can sell your babies on the forum
You are welcome to ask on the forum if anyone has any particular fish you looking for that they would like to sell as well as if anyone has seen some for sale anywhere

Awesome, thanks @MariaS , that makes life a little easier to work around, I'll be able to check with my local fish stores and then after that I'll post on the forums for anyone close enough that has/seen what I want, last thing I want is to be banned because I was asking where I can find a fish :p

You can ask where to find a fish or if anyone has that they would like to sell. No problem

If you go somewhere and you see something unussual that you want to share, you can also post
There is actually an old thread titled "LFS fish finds" where often members posted unusual fish they saw for sale somewhere

ok, same applies to fish that have grown too big for a tank? my friend has big fish, Bala Shark, Tinfoil Barbs, Tilapia, Pleco and after doing my research for my tank I started telling him about his terrible choices (all in a 4ft long tank as well o_O). Can he/I offer to sell or trade them as unwanted stock type of thing?

Yes you can sell fish that have outgrown your tank however, just check the classified rules, you need a certain number of posts before you can sell under the classifieds
