    Hi guys,
I'm looking for some sugestions for stocking my new tank (getting it tommorow). I was thinking a pair of angels, and some tetras. The tank is going to be planted.
The new tank is 1200x450x600 so its deep enough for angels!

I think its more of a case if it fits in their mouth they will eat it that goes with all fish but some people have both in their tanks and they don't eat them so it depends I have never kept angels so I'm no expert on them @hlencoloots

For a short period of time I had an almost full grown angel, and my first noob mistake was introducing juvenile neons. The angel ate all 8 neons in 24 hours. I think that if you start with large neons and introduce a juvenile angel, you'll probably be ok even once the angel is fully grown, but I don't have experience with this. Also, I have read that pairs can be difficult in terms of aggression and bullying of each other (one will become dominant), and that angels should either be kept single or in a group of at least 6 (the group being ideal). Again, I don't really have experience with it though, just what I've read. Give it a shot with a pair and see how it goes?

Unless you buy an established breeding pair, the changes of you getting a breeding pair by buying 2 fish is slim, you cannot sex them. Your best bet is to get around 7 Angels, you'll likely to get two pairs out of that number. Your tank may be a tad small for that number of Angels though. I have Angels and neons in my 2m tank, but as RoGe suggested I had adult neons and introduced small Angels at the time, so they are left alone, but it is not an ideal combination and I would not suggest trying it.
If you want to breed Angels, you'll have to have a separate breeding setup, you won't be able to successfully breed in a community setup, Angels become very territorial and aggressive when breeding.

@Jwh thank you, so how many angels would you suggest for my tank only one or a group of them?

I would suggest groups of 6 (although I have only 5 at present). They seem happier in groups, a single fish or a pair have never worked for me. They are cichlids, which are generally semi-aggressive fish. In a group setting the aggression is dissipated across the group, and generally all fish in the tank benefit from this.
My son has one pair in his tank, in his context they are just plain nasty fish.
This is my experience though, and other members my have different experiences

Its interesting... I have never had angels. I know they cichlids but, when you look at a tank with angels, it looks so peaceful that I never pictured them being aggressive... Guess we learn every day.

Yes I mostly keep tetras so I don't plan on keeping angels although I want to get rams and rainbows

Can tell you from experience that if you get small angels and have them grow with neons or harlequins they don't bother them. Never had any disappearances. 16 angels at large mug diameter. But kept angels well fed. Have 4 huge angels with school of 10 harlequins in now. And add smaller ones regularly. No issues. But as with all animals. Their personality might differ. Try and see. Start with neons first about 6 then add 2 small angels. They are territorial.
