New Member from East London

Hi All

I thought I would introduce myself as I will be browsing the forum a lot for information.

I kept fresh water fish as a youngster...but very casually and with little interest to learn anything. I have since been keeping marines for a good number of years now...been an active member on MASA as well, but it has gotten to the point where time and interest in the salt water side of the hobby has dwindled so 2 weeks ago I sold up all my livestock and marine equipment and thought it was time to try something different.

I've kept my Red Sea 130 and am going to convert it to a planted tank...hopefully one that doesnt need too much attention... I've bought some Flourite Black, some dragon rock and 2 pieces of Mopani Wood which are busy soaking at the moment...not sure the duration they require to leach completely or enough to place them in the tank? Once the wood is good to go I'll setup and fill and go from there.

Feels like a big learning curve for me from marines to keeping fresh water, but hopefully I will be able to catch on quick enough and produce a decent little setup.

 

Welcome Mark. Nice to see some Slummos on TASA. I also used to keep marines... Enjoying fresh water much more as does my pocket

Also used to stay in EL myself. Wish I started my Fish keeping Hobby back then already :tongue:

Yes @Broder there are a few of us that slum it here in East London area
Good luck with the a planted tank we don't have a big choice of LPS that keep a good selection of aquatic plants (and even few that know that there is a deference between submissive and aquatic plants) but i am sure you get a ton of help and advice here on that

Hey Broder, I heard you had changed over to fresh water as well...lol definitely going to be friendlier on pocket.

Ya I have noticed already that plants in EL are almost non existant...just the usual run of the mill boring items that have been around since I was a kid. Have already started looking out of town and online for sources of livestock...so hopefully I manage to find what I am looking for this way.
