    Hey everyone!

Just a short introduction! I have not had a tank in about 8-9 years! So very excited to get back into the game.

I remember reading the guppiesforyuppies forum for hours! Don't know if anyone here even remembers that forum haha

Looking at getting a 4-5ft tank with sump. Want to go a fully planted (Hopefully well scaped), co2 etc

I am a bit rusty and not sure what is out there currently so I am going to be browsing here for the next month or so then once i'm comfy, i'm going to jump into it!

Keep a look out for the tank thread to come!

    Later guys!

Welcome back - may your MTS be strong.

    8-9 years ... logo.gif he he,upload_2018-9-14_4-42-54.png

Some of the members are still in the hobby - others life got in the way as is the normal cycle.

Much has changed. We are now spoiled for plants - anything from the old fake 'yes this will grow in your tank marsh plants' all the way to how exotic do you want your lab grown cultivation to be. Plants need expensive substrate - well by looking at the choice one would sure think so. All in all we are in a way better space in the hobby - you might even spot a shrimp or two in most tanks.

A few brands and imports are regional - in JHB we have a few guys that are doing the local is lekker thing.

Top of mind is Epic and scape ... (sorry if I missed somebody - your fault - skulkers)

https://www.epicaquatics.net/ - large collection of aquatic pants are now grown in JHB - they also have the ADA import thing going. (see https://www.epicaquatics.net/index.php/retailers for a LFS that might carry stock)

Keep your eyes open for some local fertz 14889776_1848667702032044_4499243575618877255_o.jpg

They are still around and are also kept at most LFS.

Tanks - James has a good following on TASA for quality builds at scale.

as for other plant brands - Tropica, anubia, aquaflora etc etc are all imports that we find semi-regular on the shelves. (We still get "cheap" potted asia sourced plants also)

Many run LED - yes you can do an easy light setup with off the shelf LED tubes or fixture - all straight 220V no more 12 volt strips from china mall.

The buzz this quarter is in vitro plants, we have also seen an increase in hobbyist to online e-shop entrepreneurs. So the likes of http://www.betterweather.co.za/shop/ (mostly plant related) now has competition from other's like http://shrimpstop.co.za/anubias-in-vitro-plants/ https://www.fjinverts.co.za/ http://www.nanoaquatics.co.za/

Don't forget to check out the sponsor section on TASA - rebel, liveaquatics are brick and mortar (well maybe live, we not sure they are being very secretive ;-) are all new to TASA - so they might be keen to help you out with special requests.

We also have some TASA members that breed some live stock - but I will leave the joy of that discovery to you as you get to know the individuals.

    Later Ferdie
