Hi all. I have had a fish tank before, Actually still have one that is very neglected.
My wife and I would like to start a new tank with a new setup. I have been browsing the forum and am still trying to decide if I should build my own tank or buy. I will start posting in the beginner pages later but for now we are planning on going for a tank with aquascaping and neon tetras. I would like a cleaning crew or something and maybe one or 2 other types of fish... But we are still in the research stage. And yes we have made the same mistakes in the past with buying all sorts of fish not knowing how to keep them and which were compatible with the others.

not sure where to post this but what is PFS? for substrate. I am getting all sorts of definition and they giving me anything from diseases to service providers.... And correct me If I am wrong but I somehow doubt any service providers would like to lie at the bottom of a tank and have plants planted in them.

    I really hate making typos.

i use pfs in my sons 3ft and supply nutrients via seachem flourish root tabs, bit expensive, as such some members swear by osmocote. its expensive as well but will last you longer

if you want to go planted, read, read, and read some more. Know what you want before you start and save yourself a mid life crisis. there are plenty of green fingers on the forums with a wealth of information

My other tank is 77cm*35 cm*+-55 cm. But the wooden Lid has become rotten. I still have 3 unknown fish in it. One was called a jack hammer.... That fish seems to be immortal. There are no lights left. I think the heater works, I know the canister filter still works. So I do have some spares to start the new tank. but wife would like a wider tank so that is why I am not going to use this one. It was one I completely built, but I am not 100% sure I want to build another tank. So I am thinking of possibly buying one

Hi @Stever and welcome yo the Forum

You will get loads of help here both fish related and planted tanks

If you want a wider tank, you might have to build one or have one built as the ready made ones are pretty much a standard size

I am just not sure of what the standard sizes are.. what I do know is 35 cm is a little bit narrow.

I am assuming the root tabs are fertilizer tablets for the roots for the plants? The tank looks very nice.

With you using PFS your plants will generally benefit from some form of fertiliser.
Seachem Root Tabs work well, but are VERY expensive.
Osmocote in Gel capsules work just as well, at a fraction of the cost.

I finally remembered to take a pic or 2 of the jack hammer ( I think that is what it is called) the other 2 fish are missing. But they are about the size of a neon tetra20181108_164821.jpg 20181108_164818.jpg
